I cannot believe this book was published

Garbage! garbage! trash! This book does not explain anything. It just shows the reader pictures then it gives you steps to do. Steps that tells you what to do but not why you're doing it. Some lessons left me more puzzled than I was before picking up this book. I followed some of the steps up to lesson 4 (I think), then I browsed the rest of the pages, hoping to see more, but it never happend. I still have the book but only because I lost the receipt.

    Book not worth the money

I returned it to the store. This book really sucked. None of the examples worked right. I never even got to chapter 4.

Hits a grounder into left field

As Step by Step, all I found were many errors in the steps that were very frustrating. Even on completion, many examples just led to the creation of message boxes that left me pondering...What was this all about? My copy will be a permanent dust collector as it has no usefulness.

    Step, Skip, Jump

I wish I would have read the reviews before picking this book up. The book is hard to follow and unlike the title claims it does not have a step by step approach. The author often skips over details and I found myself having to jump back and forth between chapters.

    Poorly edited

Like so many of the Step by Step books, this one fell flat on its face. While the core concept is a good one, the reader is disconnected from the process of programming in ADO.NET (type a line of code here, type a line of code there, but jeez, I don't know why I did that). As already noted, lots of errors in this book, especially the C# examples. Some are merely typographical, but I felt like I was the editor for this book. I, too, felt too frustrated to continue and finally quit after Chapter 8.

    Full of mistakes

Not a good Step by Step book. Lots of code errors. Very hard to follow. Full of 'don't worry about this now, I'll cover it in a later chapter.' I've tried getting through this book three times. I got frustrated all three times about half way through the book. I decided to burn the book.

    Wait for the second edition.

I like the approach this book uses, and its VB or C# paths and examples. However, it is apparent that nobody actually tried to program the C# steps before this book was published - because these steps are chock full of cut-paste errors, etc. (mostly for creating event handlers for the wrong buttons but one section has the same coding steps as a later section). Also, many of the examples throw exceptions due to the supplied database already having matching records (inserting matching primary key records). Currently - these errors are not covered by a Microsoft errata.
