I read other books on JDBC and Java programming with Oracle, and this is by far the best one. Not only does it cover accessing an Oracle database using Java with JDBC, but it also covers Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, developing J2EE components (EJB, JSP and servlets), and Oracle JDeveloper. It also covers Java stored procedures. The tuning chapter alone is worth the price of this book. 1.

This book rocks! I bought it recently and the chapter on tuning Java programs for use with an Oracle database was well worth the price of this book alone. Our programs sped up by over 40% by applying the techniques shown in this book.

I gave this book five stars because it is the best book I've seen on JDBC. It covers everything you need to know about JDBC programming with Oracle. It takes you through how to program in JDBC using a step-by-step approach that I really liked. It also covers OC4J programming.

I bought this book a couple of weeks ago and found it to be extremely helpful in my job as a programmer developing Java applications. One of the things I really liked was that the book covered all the latest features of the Oracle9i database, as well as covering Oracle8i. The book also covers using the Oracle9i Application Server. Part 1 of the book teaches you the basics of JDBC programming, such as using the standard JDBC API, along with the Oracle extensions to standard JDBC. Part 1 also teaches the basics of databases and SQL. Part 2 covers more advanced programming with JDBC, such as using database objects, large objects, and PL/SQL. I also liked the coverage of advanced transaction control supplied in Part 2. Part 3 goes into how you store Java programs in the Oracle9i database, along with how you develop OC4J J2EE components such as Enterprise JavaBeans, JavaServer Pages and servlets for use with the Oracle9i Application Server. Part 5 shows how to tune Java programs for maximum speed. I thoroughly recommend this book to all Java programmers who write programs that use an Oracle database.

I liked this book because it covers the details of using JDBC with an Oracle database. It also covers the new Oracle Application Server, including how to write EJBs and servlets. The book also covers performance tuning, and I was able to use the techniques in my own code.
