Meet the Author

Robin Dewson has been hooked on programming ever since he bought his first computer, a Sinclair ZX80, in 1980. He has been working with SQL Server since version 6.5 and Visual Basic since version 5. Robin is a consultant mainly in the city of London, where he has been for nearly eight years. He also has been developing a rugby-related website as well as maintaining his own site at Fat-Belly.com.

Adam Machanic is an independent database software consultant, writer, and speaker based in Boston. He has implemented SQL Server solutions for a variety of high-availability online transaction processing and large-scale data warehouse applications, and also specializes in .NET data access layer performance optimization. Adam has written for SQL Server Professional and TechNet magazines, serves as the SQL Server 2005 Expert for SearchSQLServer.com, and has contributed to several books on SQL Server, including Pro SQL Server 2005 (Apress, 2005). He regularly speaks at user groups, community events, and conferences on a variety of SQL Server and .NET-related topics. He is a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) for SQL Server and a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP).

Jan D. Narkiewicz is chief technical officer of Software Pronto, Inc. His areas of expertise include Microsoft technologies, Oracle, and DB2. Tom Rizzo is a director in the SQL Server group at Microsoft. Rob Walters is a data platform technology specialist for Microsoft. His extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server began over 10 years ago when he worked as a consultant for Microsoft Consulting Services in Denver, Colorado. Shortly after the dot-com bubble burst, Walters returned to Microsoft s headquarters and worked as a program manager in the SQL Server product unit. There, he owned various features within SQL Server including SQL Server Agent, various management features, and the security for the database engine. Walters has co-authored three patents for technologies used within SQL Server.

Walters has also co-authored Programming Microsoft SQL Server 2005 by Microsoft Press, and Pro SQL Server 2005, Accelerated SQL Server 2008, and Beginning SQL Server 2008 Database Administration by Apress. He holds a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University and a master's degree in business administration from Seattle University. When not at work, he is very active in his community as an on-call firefighter.

Julian Skinner has been developing applications for over a decade. He has used a variety of Microsoft development technologies to create applications for both commercial and government entities on the Microsoft .NET platform. During his time as both a software developer and an IT consultant, he has been a part of all aspects of the SDLC, ranging from technical requirements gathering to deployment in large-scale environments. He has designed databases, implemented business logic components, and designed user interfaces for both Windows and web applications.

Louis Davidson has been in the IT industry for more than 15 years as a corporate database developer and architect.     Great Introduction to SQL Server 2005

    This is one of my favourite introduction books on SQL Server 2005, ideal if you are new or converting from a previous version. Useful to both DBAs and Programmers, it is readable from cover to cover.
