Data collection in the classroom is important to track students' success. Data is also used to help develop goals and see outcomes with children who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Still, tracking data can be difficult for teachers because of the time involved and the many ways to track data. As a result, sometimes data collection in the classroom is not as efficient as it should be. However, the authors have made data collection easier with this data-based book that includes charts, how to collect data, and a CD with printable forms. There are several areas for data collection which include adaptive, behavior, cognitive, communication, general, motor, routines/directions, and social. For instance, in the adaptive area, there are charts that help with recording toileting, eating, washing hands, and putting on coats. With the cognitive area, there are charts to track shapes, body parts, colors, counting, letters, and matching. In addition, there are examples of how to make student learning goals, collect the data and monitor it, plan for instruction, then review the data to make data-based instructional decisions. The charts are user friendly with examples and keys on taking the information. School and state standards require teachers to have data collection on their students' progress. These data-based charts will assist teachers in evaluating their students to be able to give them more data-based instruction.
