Overview

Microsoft's meta data repository is central to its data warehousing strategy. Simply put, the Microsoft Repository makes it easier for decision makers to find information in a data warehouse. They can access this information using business language they understand, rather than highly technical code---the meta data repository handles the translation behind the scenes. This makes it a lot simpler for business people to find the information they need to make sound business decisions.

Wiley author Dave Marco plans to cover the latest release of the Microsoft Repository, scheduled to ship with the next version of SQL Server (code-named Yukon) in late 2001. This will be a major new release for Microsoft--it marks Microsoft's attempt to gain entry into the large-scale data warehousing market. Data warehouse developers will need to understand how the meta data repository works in order to build enterprise-strength data warehouses.
