"The Department of Statistics has developed rapidly since
its inception in 1970 and now enjoys an international reputation. Many of
the faculty have played important leadership roles of an administrative and
editorial variety in the leading professional societies. All are active in
research and many serve as invited speakers at important statistical and
scientific forums. Most have received honors at the University and/or
national level. The number of faculty is large enough so a broad variety of
skills are available but small enough that a friendly, helpful atmosphere
prevails."

"The Probability and Statistics option in all degree
programs is integrated with the regular Mathematics degree requirements and
encourages interaction with other fields such as optimization, modelling,
and computational mathematics. A valuable aspect of the applied training is
the contact with industrial clients through the Statistical Consulting
Workshop and the Math Clinic. The diversity of the faculty interests offers
experience in data analysis, probabilistic modelling, industrial and environmental consulting, and spatial methods, thus preparing students for careers
in academe, government, or industry."
