"The Biostatistics Department prepares students at the master and doctoral levels for statistical careers, with special emphasis on applications in the biological and health sciences. Applied and theoretical course work is supplemented by experiences in teaching and biostatistical consulting. Typical employers for our graduates are pharmaceutical industry, academia (especially schools of medicine and public health), private research organizations, health agencies in federal and state government, and health care delivery organizations. Faculty have achieved international recognition for research in the mathematical modeling of infectious diseases including HIV/AIDS. Other faculty research areas include statistical genetic, analysis of molecular biomarker data, Bayesian methods, linear models, stochastic processes, categorical data analysis, survival analysis and frailty modes, clinical trials, and sample surveys."
