"The Biostatistics Department prepares students at the
master and doctoral levels for statistical careers, with special emphasis
on applications in the biological and health sciences. Applied and
theoretical course work is supplemented by experiences in teaching and
biostatistical consulting. Typical employers for our graduates are
pharmaceutical industry, academia (especially schools of medicine and
public health), private research organizations, health agencies in federal
and state government, and health care delivery organizations. Faculty have
achieved international recognition for research in the mathematical
modeling of infectious diseases including HIV/AIDS. Other faculty research
areas include statistical genetic, analysis of molecular biomarker data,
Bayesian methods, linear models, stochastic processes, categorical data
analysis, survival analysis and frailty modes, clinical trials, and sample
surveys."
