"The discipline of statistics has a long history at the
University of Manitoba. Originally a program of study in the School of
Agriculture, the Department of Statistics is among the earliest departments
dedicated solely to the study of statistics in Canada. It has enjoyed a
prominent position among Canada's leading statistics departments. The
Department of Statistics has had many notable people spend time teaching,
studying, and conducting research at the University and continues to
attract leaders in the Statistical Sciences as faculty members, visitors,
and students."
