rapid increase in the use of mathematical models for characterizing
systems, understanding operations, and making decisions . . . [A] common
theme throughout [the University's] programs is the use of mathematical,
statistical, and logical models in order to better understand managerial,
operational, and physical processes."

"Besides fulfilling the academic requirements, candidates
for both the Masters and the Ph.D. must acquire some experience in
classroom teaching. Generally speaking, most first-year students serve as
teaching assistants. This may involve teaching a small problem session that
supplements the lectures in a course taught by one of the members of the
faculty. More advanced students are often given the responsibility of
running a class of their own, most frequently one of the sections in the
undergraduate calculus sequence."
