"Degrees in Statistics at CWRU offer opportunities for
students with interests in statistical and probabilistic modeling, theory
and applications to interdisciplinary work. Programs begin with a
foundation in mathematics, then add statistical theory plus intensive data
analysis and a concentration in the student's choice of applied field where
statistics is used. The Project options for undergraduates and for graduate
students allows combining interests by either working in a research setting
or participating in interdisciplinary collaboration along with a Statistics
faculty member."

"The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics contains
the disciplines that form the scientific foundation for public health
research and education. These include: 1) Biostatistics: the science
concerned with the design and analysis of biomedical research in humans and
in laboratory experiments . . . 2) Epidemiology: the science dealing with
the search for factors causing disease in humans and the study of the
occurrence and distribution of diseases in human population. A subspecialty
is environmental epidemiology, which focuses on the impact of environmental
contaminates on human . . . 3) Health Services Research is the discipline
concerned with the evaluation of all aspects of the nation's health care
delivery system . . . The faculty are engaged in various research projects
in these complimentary disciplines. Use of computers and the management and
handling of large data sets with information relevant to human health is
another important supportive discipline in the Department."

computers. A final component is coordinated faculty-student involvement in
statistical consulting. Such opportunities exist with faculty and students
in engineering, the sciences, psychology, sociology, the Medical College of
Ohio, and others."
