"The Department of Biometry and Epidemiology offers a wide
spectrum of opportunities for such quantitative study and research leading
to the Master of Biomedical Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. It
employs innovative interdisciplinary training in analytical and
mathematical sciences germane to research in biomedical, environmental, and
health care systems. Collaboration with biomedical and clinical science
departments at the Medical University of South Carolina provides a wealth
of opportunities for students to acquire expertise and experience in the
application of analytic methodology and theory relevant to biomedical,
clinical, and environmental problems."

"Each of the Department's programs offers a breadth of study
with a balance of theory, methods, and applications of statistics. The
programs are supported by the Statistical Laboratory and the Center for
Reliability and Quality Sciences. The staff of the Statistical Laboratory
provides expert Statistical advice to colleagues across the campus and to
outside agencies while the Center for Reliability and Quality Sciences
focuses on applications of statistics in business, industry, and
government."

"The Department's instructional program has two major
components, epidemiology and biostatistics. The major in epidemiology is
designed for students pursuing careers in the study of chronic diseases and
disabling conditions, and infectious diseases. Students in the
biostatistics major may study development and application of quantitative
methods of analysis of health problems, health measurement, and design and
management of health data systems."
