The focus of this course is on statistical inference and data analysis for quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and gene expression microarrays. I will draw on recent literature and research experience with controlled experiments in plant and animal studies. Emphasis will be on understanding concepts, features and limitations of existing methods. Students interested in theory can delve there, while others interested in practical use or implementation can focus on those aspects. Material will include both "classical" and Bayesian approaches to these problems.
Depending on student interest, and on overlap with other courses, I might include some pedigree analysis issues appropriate to outbred and natural populations (e.g. humans and other large mammals). However, that could easily be another whole course.
