Grace Hopper Conference 2004: Chicago
Back to the main picture page

The Grace Hopper Conference is a conference for women in computing, which is held every other year and this year it was in Chicago. My advanced networking research project was big enough to be submitted to the conference and my partner, Hetal, and I presented it at the poster session on Wednesday night. I also presented at the CRAW (Computing Research Association for Women) reunion on Friday night as a Distributed Mentor Project participant (the summer I spent in Minneapolis).

A lot of friends showed up as well. From left to right: Clint (Chicago), Jackie (Kansas City), Mike (Chicago), Sondra (Argonne), Hetal and me--no nametags are being hidden (i.e. crashing was encouraged). ;) Posing in front of our presentation.

Shots of Chicago from the conference hotel.

You can see the planetarium in the distance. It was right on the Chicago River.

IBM sponsored a river cruise on Thursday.

Rachel, Sarah, and I represented UW on the cruise.

Thursday night included the conference banquet and walking through downtown Chicago.

The view from my suite: the Wrigley building is on the left. Sarah, me and Lisa from UW at the banquet.

Many of the downtown buildings were lighted in pink for the Breast Cancer Awareness Marathon this week. This shot also includes some of the Millenium Park Amphitheater. This building has "THINK PINK" lighted on it.
