Course Synopsis

Advanced modeling techniques for performance analysis of computer systems, including LogGP/LoPC, mean value analysis, hierarchical models, complementary delays, and approximations for modeling high and low variance service times, bursty arrivals, asynchronous forking, and fork/join parallel tasks. The course will cover recent papers that develop the advanced techniques and apply the techniques to problems in computer architecture, networking, and flexible manufacturing system design. Students are expected to know the modeling fundamentals covered in CS547, and will carry out a significant course project involving the development of a new or significantly revised system model during the second half of the semester.
