1,000 paintings and statues at Daewoo Hotel

It is widely known that the Daewoo Hotel was inaugurated
in July 1996. However, it has made a strong impression on
local art-lovers during past months by commissioning 1,000
paintings and statues worth US$1 million from Vietnamese
painters and sculptors to display in all its halls, dining
rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms.

After spending six months surveying Vietnamese fine art,
the two sides agreed to select 50 painters. And after one
year of hard work, the hotel looked charming and dignified
in its inaugural ceremony with 1,000 Vietnamese paintings
and statues.

Daewoo's order has been a catalyst for the development of
the artistic life in Vietnam, giving local painters and
sculptors an opportunity to produce more masterpieces.

The tendency toward abstractionism, plus motifs of typical
Vietnamese communal activities predominates in the
masterpieces on display at Daewoo. However, it is
unavoidable that the demand for noble and vivid
decorations like "hotel paintings" does not allow painters
to develop their creative individuality.
