v National universities of culture and arts to be established in Hanoi and HCMC

The establishment of culture and art universities in Hanoi and HCMC is
one of the targets presented at the national meeting of culture and arts
schools recently held in Hanoi by the Ministry of Culture and
Information. The meeting was attended by representatives from 25 culture
and arts schools nationwide and 30 directors of services of culture and
information. It is planned that the two universities will be built
between 2010-2020, equipped with modern facilities and comprise a wide
range of majors of both Vietnamese and international cultures.


v Replacing opium plants with tea plants in Yen Bai

Yen Bai Province has invested billions of dong in the construction of a
nursery for San tea, a specialty of the province, and a tea processing
workshop in the mountainous district of Mu Cang Cai, the focal area for
the campaign to destroy opium plants in the province. At the moment,
more than two million tea plants have been carried to villages to be
sown before the rainy season. This has been considered a suitable model
for areas where opium plants are being destroyed in Yen Bai


v 390 Vietnamese athletes to take part in SEA Games 19

The Vietnamese sports delegation for the coming SEA Games 19 will
include 390 athletes competing in 24 events, said the Vietnam National
Olympic Committee. This is the largest delegation Vietnam has sent to a
regional sports festival so far. Apart from 18 traditional sports, this
time Vietnamese athletes will compete in women's football, snooker,
body-building, surfing, wrestling and boating. Vietnam has plans to host
SEA Games 22 in 2003.
