Claude is shot and betrayed by his girlfriend. Although he survives the wound, Claude is arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison. While being transported in a prison van, Claude is freed after an attack on the police convoy, escapes to a safehouse and tries to make a new start in the Liberty City while also dealing with his past.

The first thing you should know about Gta III is that it didn't age well, other games later in the seris have better mechanics and story.

However as someone who hasen't played this game way back when, it's still really enjoyable.

The Silent Patch is needed to run on windows 10 and widescreen support is really lame and messes up your croshair as well as the combat system being total ♥♥♥, however its the atmosphere that really caputred me, from the radio stations to driving around Liberty City.

The story isn't as complex and well thoughtout as other games, but the setup is really awesome.

You are a criminal who was just betrayed by your girlfriend and left for dead during a bank robbery. When you were being transferd to prison, the van was intervented by the Columbian Cartel who then blew up the bridge you were on after getting a certain inmate who is important later in the story. There were only two survivors of the explosion, you and a fellow inmate nicknamed 8-Ball. The rest of the story is basiclly Errand Boy: The Game, but has some good moments here and there.

Definatly worth a sale purchese.

EDIT: There is also a widescreen patch as well.

Check out PCGW for an essential patch. Otherwise, this game is still as awesome as it was over 10 years ago! Truly a classic with great art, atmosphere, and controls. (A note - I was having problems with my gamepad, so I went back to keyboard only. Apparently the easiest way to use a controller is map the keyboard and then use Joy2key or something similar).

In my personal opinon, I feel that Rockstar and Steam shouldn't have the right to sell such a broken product without even as little as a warning about how bad this version of the game is. And if you're running Windows 10 like I am? HA! Good luck...cause you're gonna need it. I got this game to run better by setting up a PS2 emulator for my PC and playing it that way. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY for an otherwise AMAZING experence.

GTA 3 is a classic and I would love to recommed this game, but there is one problem, you might have a hard time getting the game to work on a modern PC. I get it, the game is old, but if Rockstar wants to take my money for the old game, then they should at least patch it to work on modern pc's. If you turn frame rate limit off, most likely you will run into problems. If you have transparency problems, download the file below and copy the content into your GTA III directory.

Silent protagonist, nice story, and pleasant driving. Aiming and shooting with weapon are not so good, aiming is not smooth, shooting mostly misses it's target with a mouse(probably because there is no free aim in the console version). Minor bugs but nothing game breaking.

Just as I remember it: great for its time and still worth the time. And there's just something painful but satisfying about not having a full map which forces you to learn the roads and how to get around, that being said the map is not that big. Oh, and you get shot on most of the map by the other gangs the more you do the main missions, making it difficult to move around freely later in the game.

p.s. Works great on a Z3735F(Windows 10 Laptop) with Intel HD Graphics(Bay Trail) on maximum settings(~40fps on average) at 1366x768.

Finished it in almost 12 hours. Great game, but I don't recommend the Steam version despite it's mess of PC port problems. Better off to play the console version instead.

So here we go folks, my next review and this one is close to me as I prepare the daunting task of reviewing a game that is one of my top 10 games of all time. If you haven't guessed by the title, yes it is Grand Theft Auto III. Enjoy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros:

-Very Solid Story.

-Character Design was good for its time period.

-A very sizable Map with a big sense of open world first of its kind.

-Tony Cipriani, one of the best characters ever.

-A very nice Soundtrack in form of Radio Stations.

-The Missions are for the most part enjoyable to do.

-Tony Cipriani, one of the best characters ever.

-Sound Effects, while simple in there execution, are memorable.

-Some of the most memorable Quotes you will hear in video games.

-Did I mention Tony Cipiriani? I probably did.

Cons:

-Bikes are not in the game mostly because of budget reasons?

-Some stuff got cut that would have been awesome in the game.

-Nothing to do with Money except buying weapons.

-There are some major bugs in the game especially with the Replay Function.

Pros/Cons depending on the player:

-No Steam Achievements.

-No Steam Trading Cards.

-Some of the side missions like the Taxi Fares and Rampages can be tricky if not annoying to do.

Running on modern hardware, this game is borderline unplayable. I know that it's a landmark in gaming or whatever, but I only managed to play for a few hours before giving up altogether. If you get it in a bundle, you could install it to marvel at how far we've come (particularly regarding driving physics), but that's about it.
