What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Isle is an immense undertaking by a group of veteran developers that have collectively worked on three previous dinosaur games. We don't want to create 'just another survival sandbox' or 'just another dinosaur game'; we want to be 'the' dinosaur game. Though the initial core of the game will be implemented upon release, this is a platform sandbox being developed for the community that will help shape The Isle into supporting any game-type imaginable. This goes from classic team deathmatch integration to dramatic park tycoon creation, accurate dinosaur ecosystem simulations, and thrilling survival combat. We believe we can create the basis and modding content for every player's dream that was or is a dinosaur game. After all, 'creation is an act of sheer will.'”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Approximately fifteen months based on community support, with a full release scheduled for Q1, 2017.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Day One Early Access version has the core implementation of dinosaurs and their functionality. There are currently many other planned features that we will be adding in the coming weeks, some of which already in development. Aside from internal planned features, community feedback will be vital in the creation and implementation of additional dinosaurs, player types, cosmetic skins, and various other aspects.

Current Planned Features:
- Mac + Linux + Steam OS Version
- Full Mod Support (i.e. skins, additional dinosaurs, extra or intentionally limited game features, maps, and gamemodes)
- Full Controller Support ( Xbox / Steam Controller etc)
- Other Steamworks Features (Achievements, Trading Cards, etc)
- VR Support
- Localization of All Game UI / Text
- Realistic Dinosaur AI with Complex Ecosystems
- 20+ Playable Dinosaurs
- "Cannibal" Faction Implementation
- "Mercenary" Faction Implementation
- Player Crafting System Implementation
- Base Capturing
- Dynamic Aerial Drop-In Spawn System
- Human/Dino Body Painting
- Dinosaur Taming
- Advanced Vehicle System
- More Skins
- More Dinosaurs
- Improved Sound FX, including regional sound localization
- Improved and Expanded Vegetation System, including interactive foliage
- Functional Steam Economy
- Global In-Game World Quest (That will directly affect game development)

Aside from the necessity of community feedback finds for bug fixes, content suggestion, and creative feedback, the Isle will have a post-release content structure after Early Access has been polished to the best of our ability.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All necessary features such as options, settings, and graphics are present.

Dedicated servers, steam synchronization, and basic persistence are present.

The minimal requirements of a dinosaur survival simulation are in place. Players can choose from all available dinosaurs and have the basic needs for eating, drinking, and have the capability to move through the world, stalking and hunting other players and AI.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pricing will be changed during each milestone of large development features, such as new factions, dinosaur editions, and maps.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is imperative to the overall development direction of additional features on top of current content. These include, but are not limited to, dinosaur additions, future environmental biomes, weapons, skins, and community inspired creations.”

About This Game

DISCLAIMER: THIS GAME IS IN EARLY ACCESS. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF INTENDED GAMEPLAY FUNCTIONALITY.

Foreward and Caution

Firstly, thank you for looking at and possibly considering the purchase of our game. Despite the fact we aspire to create a fun game approachable by many, we feel the need to caution any potential users. We have begun updating the game towards the point of intended hardcore functionality. As this happens, difficulty will gradually become more brutal and chances of survival become less likely. We, the developers, are actively going to design the future game islands and creatures to counteract known player tactics of survival. Your mistakes will be punished. Expect no survivors.

The Isle: A World Designed to Kill You

The Isle is a realistic, gritty, open-world survival horror game. There is only one goal in mind: Survival. The islands and its inhabitants will radically change, ever-evolving as players themselves learn how to survive. There are no waypoints, tutorials, or ulterior precepts in mind to alter play styles or purpose. In the end, the only person you can trust is yourself.

KEY FEATURES IN EARLY ACCESS

These features are currently in the game and though they are listed, may have bugs that have not been discovered or addressed.

  • The Island: A vast landscape of dense jungle and open plains, hidden within are various ruins and expanses that hold insight as to what was here...
  • Up to 100 players per server based on server hardware and bandwidth.
  • Progression System - Start as a defenseless creature and work your way up to the mighty titans of the prehistoric era, falling all the way to the bottom of the food chain upon death.
  • Basic Dinosaur Simulation - Basic needs such a thirst and hunger are present. Stalk your prey and avoid your predators among the dense forests and swamps.
  • Playable Dinosaurs - Choose between more than 15 playable dinosaurs such as Austroraptor, Carnotaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Gallimimus, Utahraptor, Acrocanthosaurus and Allosaurus, with many more planned ahead.
  • Dedicated Server Binaries with Steam integration
  • Basic Dinosaur AI
  • An expansive island stretching larger than 16x16km²

Planning Ahead: The Future Development Goals

We realize that there is a long road ahead and a lot of work to be done in order to turn this into the dinosaur game we want it to be. Throughout the year, we will be adding a lot more to the Isle based off of current planning and user feedback Some of these features are as follows:

  • Mac/Linux/Steam OS Support
  • Full Mod Support - Skins, additional dinosaurs, and various gamemodes such as deathmatch and a tycoon sim
  • Additional Steamworks Features - Achievements, Trading Cards, etc.
  • VR Support
  • Localization of all Game UI/Text
  • Realistic Dinosaur AI with complex ecosystems
  • 20+ Playable Dinosaurs
  • Cannibal Faction implementation
  • Mercenary Faction implementation
  • Player Crafting System implementation
  • Base Capturing
  • Dynamic Aerial Drop-In Spawn System
  • Human/Dinosaur Body Painting
  • Dinosaur Capturing and Training
  • Advanced Vehicle System
  • Improved Sound FX, including regional sound localization
  • Improved and expanded vegetation system, including interactive foliage
  • Functional Steam economy
  • "The Escape" global in-game world quest

Aside from the necessity of community feedback finds for bug fixes, content suggestion, and creative feedback, the Isle will have a post-release content structure after Early Access has been polished to the best of our ability.

Unique Triple-Faction Gameplay

Choose between three playable factions and find yourself stranded on a merciless island of harsh wildernesses, rampaging dinosaurs, vicious cannibals, lethal mercenaries and rival players. Explore dark and foreboding jungles, unforgiving swamps and beautiful but deadly mountain vistas for the supplies you will ultimately need to survive. As you progress and explore, you will happen across ancient ruins and abandoned military bases that, with perseverance and time, can convert into your own outpost or nesting ground in this hostile world.

  • As the Mercenary, you'll experience a sense of both wonder and terror as everything on the island has evolved to kill you. However, you will find yourself armed to the teeth and more than capable when it comes to survival skills. Nothing will stand in your way... so long as you still have ammo.
  • As the Cannibal, you will find yourself in-tune with the natural environment. Capable foragers and natural hunters, you will form tribes or survive alone. Armed with spears, bows, poison, and makeshift camouflage, you must be as ruthless as the beasts among you.
  • As a Dinosaur, you'll be the epitome of cunning and ferocity. From the small agile Austroraptor to the unstoppable Tyrannosaurus Rex, you will survive from being a juvenile until adulthood, forming packs, creating and defending your nests, hunting prey, and claiming territory. All roads lead to death, or becoming the apex predator of the island.

A Global Community Story

The Isle features a narrative told strictly through the environment, achievable only through immense cooperation among players. Hidden locations and artifacts are dynamically created within the open world that reveal the answers to all the questions that would arise. Why are you here? Why dinosaurs? What is causing them to mutate? Why can’t you just leave? It will take the entire global community to unravel the purpose to their being on the Isle and each discovery will directly affect the future of the game.

Become the Beast

One key focus of the Isle is the unique element of playing as dinosaurs and other creatures found on the islands. All will have a general familiar play-style, while each retain their own uniqueness of capability. Players can select a variety of creatures and grow from juvenile to adulthood. As your dinosaur grows, you can select different palette options and skins, growing your abilities to hunt, create your pack, and eventually mutate into a much powerful version of your dinosaur and claim the right as the Apex.

Unparalleled Mod Support

We will support all the features of Steamworks and allow for any aspect of the game to be modded by the community using Steam Workshop. Members of the community will be able to download a free copy of Unreal Engine 4 from Epic Games and generate mods and change all aspects of the game. This includes everything but not limited to making a new map, adding new dinosaur types or new game modes such as a Dinosaur Park Simulator or a role playing focused game mode.

You can subscribe to mods on the workshop and select what ones you want enabled when you start your server. Players joining the servers will automatically obtain the required mods without even needing to restart the game.

I was a Gallimimus, low on water and sprinting, hoping I'd stumble on a pond, when I rocketed over a drop I didn't see and broke my leg.

That might've been the end of it for me, except for the other Galli. It walked with me a ways, sat with me while I waited for my leg to heal, and then when I was well, led me to water. Her name was Leana, and she was waiting on coordinates to rejoin her herd. We chatted awhile, and discovered we both wanted to evolve to Maiasaura next. We agreed to do this together. She got the coordinates, and we headed out.

But we were never to meet them. The chat was frantic, spoke of carnivores, then folks stopped responding. All of a sudden, we were a herd of two. We made it to a lake, but couldn't stop to drink: there was roaring and a carcass nearby. We ran when Lenna spotted the Acro responsible.

We should head round the mountain, she said, to the lake on the other side. We made it a good ways up the mountain before we hit a dead end, and we realized we had to go back. We were low on water by then, but we could maybe make it to Acro lake and if we were fast, get away before he spotted us.

We started down the hill. We made it a few hundred meters when Leana took a wrong step and began limping. I stayed with her awhile, but neither of us could afford to wait. I told her to evolve to Mia without me. Don't worry about me, I can make it to the lake.

Leana, I made it to the lake. On my last fifth of health and limping myself, but I made it and survived to Mia. I'll find you.

I would recommend the isle to anyone who enjoys open world games.
This game is being worked on daily by the developers and people are fast to run the game down because of that so please remember this is an early access game.

If you are going to play it i recommend playing on a progression server so you can play the game how it is supposed to be played.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND SAND BOX SERVERS!

Brilliant game! Can't wait for more Dinosaurs and Maps to be released!
I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves Survival games and/or Dinosaurs!

There are two game modes:

Sandbox; Where you choose a dinosaur and play as it. If you die than you can either choose that dinosaur again or choose a different dinosaur and choose the skin you want.

Progression; Where you start from the bottom tier (lowest stats, damage, etc) and choose a path to go down collecting points that you save up to get to the next tier of dinosaurs.

(Progression is not finished yet and it takes a long time to get to the next tier so I recommend choosing Sandbox.)

Also the developers are working on Humans, Tribals and Cannibals.
They are also working on aquatic dinosaurs and are working on more aerial creatures like the pteranodon, Quetzalcoatlus and more.
They are also working on nesting for dinosaurs and weapons for Humans, Tribals and Cannibals

(I will edit this every now and then when more stuff is added to the game.)

Honestly
I think the game is very good. But the herbs should be able to turn better and/or hit with the tail once the carns attack from behind (ITS LITERALLY IMPOSSSIBLEEE ) to survive as a big herb when youre attacked from behind especially as a shant.

Kinda takes the fun from playing once you reach the high level dino and get killed by raptors or something. Its very very very frustrating. Cant even run because you're slow- so atleast make it able to fight better ~

I love the isle but i do prefer to choose what dino i want instead of progression. Sure with proression you feel like you deserve that massive dino you have unlocked but without it it's way more fun because when you die you don't have any point to loose and there are more mixed herds and packs. This is just my opinion.

I've had this game a week or more and I can't hold back my review any longer.

Here it is: THIS GAME IS DAMN GOOD FUN!
I don't play any other games then this unless survival servers are low. I've played a lot of different games and I can say this one tops them ALL. Only trouble besides the obvious bugs and glitches in this "early access" game is the player population is somewhat lacking. Not enough to be a problem, but more people is what this game needs the most. If you need proof this game is legit, I suggest watching past and current videos of this game from youtbe. Lots of great stuff there to help you decide.

In conclusion if you're a dino fan just get this game already, right now!

Basically as a child I lived everything dinosaurs. Yes I meant to say "lived," they were everything. I've played games like Turok just for the dinosaur aspect. This is the first game I've ever come across that does the concept any justice. I've played almost 20 hours so far and have yet to encounter a bug. For an alpha that is amazing. Also the developers are hard at work keeping it up to date, and keep moving expeditiously towards a finished game. I can't wait to see what the future holds!

i love this game, i have had hours of fun.
it is still an early access game so if you plan on buying this game, dont put high expetations.
this game is not for people expecting good perfomers and/or alot of content early on.
this is a game still early in development so expect bugs and glitchs. if finding any of those, dont give bad rewiews, instead help the devs by reporting the problem.

you will get annoyed often, but you can/will get fun moment with friends or finding friends

This is more of a Yes and No review. First of all, the games GREAT! Graphics and all that. However there are alot of faults with it.
I understand that this game is under developement, yes, however there are a lot of bugs and glitches still in the game that have been here since before all these new dinosaurs. Along with that, some of the newer dinosaurs have problems of their own, along with the recently brought back Pue. The Pue is unable to be killed, period (unless by another Pue), which is understandable however with the addition of Hypo, you'd thing it'd be able to kill a pue. It doesn't, at least not that I am aware of. Another small bug is the Taco (Psi)'s jump. It has no animation at all, and it's just too slow.

I don't have a problem with Progression, unlike some, however it seems ridiculous that the Taco and Dryo cannot protect themselves. They run, and that's a problem if they are bit once. It would help if the Taco could use it's quills that are on it's tail for some sort of self defense, either through bleed or even puncture damage (like a porcupine!). The dryo, however, could probably just run away. It's quick enough, but maybe allow it to kick? It looks like it could at least.

Anyways, this game is really good but I'd suggest waiting until it's finally released in order to play it will the full content viarity!

I used to enjoy this game plaing as a dino was fun util youre dino turned into a ♥♥♥♥♥ that breaks his leg on a ♥♥♥♥ing twing.
The adition of having to play as a weak little peice of ♥♥♥♥ dog sized dino is anoying util you unlock a big dino. even then if your not in a pack you will get recked. From my veiwpoint this is very slowly turing into the stomping lands.

Good luck playing carnivores as a solo player, you're gonna get ganged on all the time because people seem very picky on allies (or have irl friends, whatever.)

I can find fun in playing herbivore, but as a carnivore it's ridiculous. Can't eat anything, and when I'm spotted by another predator I'm good as dead no questions asked. Everyone's really KOS'y and I find little enjoyment in not being able to trust my own kind due to the lack of food for carns.
All these big dinos chasing down little ones is like alligators going after goldfish, it should be pointless but isn't.

Herbivore gameplay is quite nice. I like the plant system they got going, the terrifying feel of possibly being watched whether youre trudging through the forest as a big ol' shant or dashing around as a little dryo, and I adore playing the little tacos x3 Not to mention finding people to make a herd with is cool. Of course, turning into a big awesome plant-eater like a tricerotops is all nullified when the local hypo rex comes along.

The fact that the hypo exists in its current state makes me question what the balance of the game is going to be like. (A walking tank that is faster than everything and oneshots, sure. Not to mention often seen carebearing the crap out of future hypos.)

I hear stories of the devs being questionable in their behaviour too, but I know little of it. This review is simply on my first impressions of the game.

I'll be sure to wait it out but I'm certainly not a fan of the game in the state that I've started playing this game in.

Do you like spending 5 or 6 hours getting to an apex predator only to have it completely trashed by someone whos spent 18 hours playing the game to get the hyperendocrin rex that is the fastest and strongest dino in the game that has to kill everything in sight?

If so this game is for you!

This game was actually fairly enjoyable when I first bought it. You had bushes to hide in as a smaller dino and sandbox mode allowed you to try out which dinos you liked so you could work towards them in progression. Now they have removed sandbox entirely as well as bushes, and as a result I will no longer be playing this game until one or the other (or both) are re-added. Such a shame they would give us all a slap in the face. Without any cover it is impossible to progress in progression. I'm sick of sinking hours of my life into this game only to either receive a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ spawn when I unlock a dino or to get killed by some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rex/allo/carno that doesn't even need food. Good luck finding food as a low tier dino by the way. Nobody ever wants to share their food and you can do literally nothing against dinos even one tier higher. I will update this review if this changes, but right now I can honestly say that the developer (Dondi) doesn't care about the cronstructive critisizm that players give him, and nor does the community. As a result, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS ♥♥♥♥ING GAME!

The Game Is Nice But . . . .
I definetly don't like the newest update. Why the different tiers and points? I can't even check out the new dino without having to waste and hour just to get enough points to unlock it! I guess it's fun but I most likely won't be playing it as often . . . .

One word. Hypo. The isle is currently a game of hypo and seek. The games ecosystem is ruined as carnivores and herbs almsot never clash since herbs won't go near big lakes because theres 3 hypos destroying the server and sitting at each of these lakes. Personally I don't think the hypo should be implemented at all. I was just on a server where one player had over 40 kills. He certainly hadn't eaten 40 bodies. The adult rex is disease of enough but at least you can out run it. The hypo is faster then anything but a carno which is utter bs since it instakills everything. Not a fan of the isle atm.
