What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Since we began work on Project AURA, we had an idea for a different videogame focused on a wide degree of freedom for the player. We think we broke many aspects considered as standard in the genre to open new possibilities. Our wish is to involve the Steam community in all this to participate and help us to improve the playing experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are confident that this game will leave the Early phase along 2015. During this time we are counting on the ideas and suggestions of our community on Steam, opening the possibility to leave their mark and influence on the final result of the video game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We have big plans for Project AURA and its early version will little by little be closer to the final version.

There are characteristics that already exist in a very advanced development stage that we will open progressively like:
Colony expansion via platforms
8 new buildings for the Resources, Industrial, Social and Defense sectors
4 corporate buildings
2 new ships

We hope to introduce new characteristics and improve others as a result of the interaction with the community like:
Improving the playability by way of events and missions.
Balancing the economy.
Improving the Node Technology to automatize aspects of the colony.
Steam features like: Steam stats, Steam achievements.

*At the end of the Early phase, the videogame will be available in English, Spanish, French and German languages.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Project AURA is now in phase Beta (Beta 2), while Beta 1 has been already tested by users who preordered the game it will be still very possible to find bugs.
At its beta 2 stage, the core of the playing system is developed and there is a still basic sandbox mode playable.
To help with the introduction of the characteristics of the game, there are 4 tutorials available.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, we are launching Project AURA with a low price we think is correct for the included content. As we get closer to the final version, the price will increase.

You can find in Project Aura official website additional purchase options like personalizing your own colonist within the videogame.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Being at the same time developers and players of Project AURA, our objective is to develop a great videogame.
Any interesting contributions will be taken into account, to help on this, we will use the community forum for suggestions, listen and debate ideas. We plan to add a poll system or similar tools.”

Patch 2.95.11

Since the launch of the 2.95 patch we have released 11 minor patches and multiple hotfixes which have helped us to tweak the game and resolve issues reported by the community.
Today, we announce the 2.95.11 version, where have been made numerous improvements which are detailed bellow:

• Platforms have been retextured and new details added.

•We have added new animations to buildings, to improve immersion and the answer to your actions in-game. *This feature will keep improving within next updates.

• We have reworked the mouse activity reading system to improve the interface responsiveness and avoid "miss-clicks".

• There are two new modules available for the Kitchen building, specialized in the cereal milling and bread baking tasks.

You will be able to prepare your first dishes in the kitchen. Put your chefs to work and provide your colony with a delicious elaborated dish reward. Furthermore, through the new Cooking technology (which will be available in the coming days), you will be able to discover new recipes or improve those you already know to raise your dishes to a superior quality.

• The Project Aura Resource Chain Guide has been updated to the last version.

• As you know, it is possible to convert the blueprints you programmed in your labs to those you wish to use more specifically in any of your buildings.
Blueprint conversion window will add a market icon to the blueprints displayed in the list which are also available at the market, so you can easily decide to convert it or purchase from market.

Other improvements:

• Item context property (the popup appearing when mouse is over an item) will show now a border representing the item tier. From lower to higher quality: White, Green, Blue, Violet, Orange.

• The new Item split window allows you to send the new item directly to the inventory instead of manually having to place it.

• We have replaced the previous text font for a new and higher one to improve the interface readability.

• To avoid modules being accidentally removed from buildings templates in the Construction panel, we have added a rubber checkbox to activate/deactivate the remove mode.

What is next:

In parallel, we keep working in our "macro-patch", which will include a lot of new features like the quest system, challenges for your colony, new buildings, in-game help and assistants, etc. It all, inside a more immersive environment where your social policies, Corps and other external factors start to be relevant, together with numerous surprises we won't unveil for now.

As always, thanks for the interest in Project Aura ;)

Beta 2.95 Version Released

Hello Community!

It took a while to release this new -major- update. The amount of new features, like a brand new tech tree, has been a challenge to integrate, but we are happy with the new step in quality achieved and the amount of possibilities opened :).

Most of the work has gone -again- to the sandbox: bugs, stability and the tech-tree implementation, we have started to add, as well, macro-management tools like the production queues for the blueprints.

We have finally started to work towards the experience, introducing the first immersion element where you may decide your ideological affinity in this new adverse times. Decision which will have its consequences!

After this patch, the update frequence will be much higher, and we will be able to focus on the story and playability enrichment, with the introduction of colony threats: climate disasters, social riots, logistical challenges... quests and your assistants to help you in the beginning; and much more surprises!

Next you can see the modifications introduced in this new version:

GUI

Reworked Main Menu
•Main menu has been upgraded to Beta3 look and it brings new colony activation options. Set your affinity with any of the existing Corps, choose your packing to go your own strategy.

Reworked In-game full GUI
•The main GUI template has been redone. In later patches, it will allow players to setup its color and opacity.

Char sheet panel
•Will indicate if the colonist got any disease.
•Char skills will be shown now with a decimal point.
•Stat values estimation for the next day is also displayed now.

Other Panels improved
•Residential building's Tenants panel has been simplified.
•Item conversion panel now allows to input the amount to transform, it required to manually go one by one before.
•Inventory new category FAV: Drop on it any item you wish to have more in hand.

NEW FEATURES

Technologies
•The 5 Tech Trees (Corps + XXI Knowledge) working, bringing 11 new infrastructure buildings and the 6 entertainment buildings.

Blueprint Production queues
•Blueprints can now work also in queue mode.
•Added "Has Mats" option to filter available productions by those you own or not the mats to be produced.
•Added "Production Info" option to display information related to any selected production in the blueprint panel or queue.

Market
•Develop Diplomacy Technology to access Corp. markets. While closed, they will appear with a lock icon in red on them.
•The quality of the items available in the markets will depend on your colony level.
•Items to buyback in the market will be reset at the start of each new day.

Reworked Colony level system
•A brand new colony has a category of Experimental Colony which is the equivalent to level 1. While there is no limit on how many levels a colony can progress (just your skills), there are 10 categories a colony can achieve, bringing special bonuses like allowing for extra platforms expansion.

Other changes/features
•The available space to build on outer platforms has been reduced. *In later patches, it may be usable by very developed colonies for special constructions.
•Buildings construction costs have been rebalanced and some of the new buildings require now a few special items in order to be built.
•Workshops require now 0 energy (they will pick it from the buildings they belong directly) so it is easy to make your energy costs calculations.

•The max speed you can play is now colony size dependent: At level 1 you can raise speed up to x12 but, this value will go decreasing as long as your colony is getting bigger.

•Workers needed for corporations reduced from 8 to 4
•Workers needed for research and programming labs reduced from 4 to 1.
•Productions requiring innovation, now return the innovation points used if stopped.

---Bug fixing, tweaks everywhere and new performance improvements.

At the end of the 21st century, humans — finally aware of the great climate disaster — dedicated their efforts not on preventing the inevitable crisis, but to ensure the survival of the species itself.

Overtaken by the events and extreme food shortage, they built ultra-secret shelters that would support them in hibernation, to be awakened in a more favorable situation.

Excellent game, what I've seen so far really kept me amazed. If you are the kind of person who like to challenge your brain and make him learn and work besides you enjoy micromanagement, inmersive and slow pace games, then you definitely want to try this game so I won't spoil you nothing.

It's still in development so it may lack in content at late games but I have a good feeling about its final version, they are working hard. Cheers!!

I can say that I'm deeply proud of a spanish-made game, something that unfortunately nowadays I can't say frequently
I recommend this game, it's a delight that everyone should be able to enjoy and hope they will

Silky: Complexity, depth, longevity of games, replayability.
Rough: Learning curve, documentation.

..oo00oo..

This is a good game IF you're the right kind of audience. That's probably not the most of endearing statements to make but there's a reason for it.

The learning curve, given it's development state and expected evolving documentation, is steep. It took several starts to actually work out what I had to do and I'll be honest, several times I nearly wtfragequit and many times I was heard muttering "ffs" when the game just did not comply or didn't make sense - and I'm the gentle type. It was downright frustrating - having said that, most of the issues seemed to stem (in hindsight) from lack of good documentation for something that is not simple to play.

By perservering (and you should), every new start revealed a little more and what keeps you playing is the complexity - no, it's not overwhelming but it's not a casual game either. This is an intriguing title - parroting much of the sim/build/upgrade genre - but there are some clever tech/progress gates that appear a bit blunt (almost traumatic) until you identify the "right" way to do it - well at least until you're ready to *really* upgrade with extra rings to increase the size of your colony.

(I sincerely hope that's not too cryptic but it's the closest I could get to the inherent beauty of this title - it just sucks you into "just one more build/fix/adjustment" well past midnight).

It will take you hours to identify those nuances embedded that make your colony shine and respond the way you hope and I found the LESS I tried to force the pace (a legacy of devs developing for the time-poor and casual audience these days) the better the game became.

I mentioned the type of audience you need to be here. Let me just say you need to be borderline anal-retentive, analytical, patient, forgiving and self-deprecating (it's probably not the games fault, it's YOU) and it's really helpful if you like the type of game that encapsulates intriguing gameplay, complete with probable lore to explain your situation.

As an EA title at time of writing, the active and listening devs are working on the documentation - among the frequent updates and bug report responses they address almost immediately. There are no faults in this department.

For the price - an easy buy. The test to whether you will like it or not is by considering whether what I wrote made sense to you. If it did, buy it.

If it didn't..... :)

Do you like watching lots of arrows advance along tracks that feed into other arrow tracks that then also advance but more slowly? Do you crave punishing difficulty and a fastidious attention to even the most minor detail? Wish EVE: Online was a little more like a spreadsheet? Then Project Aura is for you! You'll spend your first 40 hours in game constantly restarting while learning to farm your colony's poop for enough fertilizer to grow tomatoes in, and if you're lucky, your larder inventory WON'T randomly disappear! All the fun of Hermes Conrad's job- even watching 8 level 1 Recyclers all become level 2! Watch your citizens' morale drop when they realize you haven't stored enough food for them to eat tomorrow, and set yourself the lofty goal of producing a bread- there's like 7 different kinds of grain!

(I know, it's a beta. Be prepared to make your own fun, though, at least for now.)

Try to raise population morale by better food.
Decide to treat your population with tomato juice, as juices have very good morale bonus.
Find out that it requires quintupling production of tomato to maintain the same population.
Switch over to having multiple kinds of food instead.
Fail to produce enough fertilizer.
Fail to extract enough raw organics to produce enough fertilizer.
Realize you hit population limit.
Spend time gathering materials for extra housing.
Try producing better trasport ship to extract raw organics with.
Spend time gathering money to build and equip a ship factory.
Redesign part of the base to fit in new larger hangar for the ship, losing a workshop in the process.
Build a better ship.
Realize that equipment from your old ship doesn’t fit.
Spend time building new equipment for the ship.
Realize that because of the lost workshop your maintenance crews can’t keep up with the speed ship wears out.
Build additional equipment to reduce wear on the ship.
Search all over the place for the very best maintenance technicians and put them onto ship maintenance.
Calculate production her hour to make sure new crews can keep it up.
Hire more people to produce fertilizer faster.
Spend time balancing out seed extraction and making sure your seed stocks are coming up.
Finally build up food reserves and introduce new menu.
Realize that you had several other morale bonuses you forgot about, so the above was completely unnecessary.

10/10, would lose four hours playing again.

This game is fun. I have never written a review before, but I had to just say that the bad rep this game has gotten is unfair. Mainly this game is INCREDIBLY difficult, but if you keep that in mind then you're fine. This issue becomes when you want a simple game that you can check out of quickly. This game makes you micro-manage, you have to understand what things build into, and more than anything else you have to pay attention and READ THE FREAKING DESCRIPTIONS. (I enjoy this game way too much).

Banished in Sci-Fi is a good comparison.

Beta 2 is a great city builder/economy simulation. Beta 3 will add research, putting even more emphasis on production optimization, in a resource scarce environment.

This is an Early Release Game, so it's not fully balanced yet, and some of the UI is awkward still.

There is no combat, which is something I appreciate. As an old gamer, I'm tired of having enemies, there are so many other ways to make games challenging and interesting.

I have read most of the reviews of this game before I bought it, both positive and negative and must say I was expecting a very unplayable game because of the number of negetive reviews and their vehemence. So I have been most pleasently surprise by the depth and complexity of this game, which is still in it's infancy. If you want a complete game then buy a complete game, this is not, as it says it is an alpha or beta if you prefer and many things don't exist yet. But if you are a patient gamer who likes to see a game grow and want to support a really good City Builder game in a futuristic setting, than this is the game for you. It is my considered opinion that those who have written the negetive reviews don't understand early access and have bad mouthed this game out of fustration, they are entitled to thier opinions but other then the ones who readily admit it is not far along as they though this game is playable and interesting and I would suggests the nay sayers give it another try

This is a unique game. It has a lot going for it, but bare in mind that this is not a game for everybody. What you get here is a vary deep production-chain and population manager. It has long production chains like in the Settler series. For instance just to produce the most basic food product- the seaweed portion you need a ship to bring in the raw sea weed. The ♥♥♥♥ needs a hangar, and a pilot. The hangar needs a director and a technican to maintain it. Then the seaweed needs to be processed. First you need to fatten the seaweed- for that you need a bioreactor plus a farmer of two. Once the seaweed is fattened you need to dry it, that needs another facility and a operator or two. And then you get the most basic food type. Don't get me even started on bread. And the game is a grind. And that can be disheartening at times. You need to invest a lot time into the game to get anything done. And there is a lot of micromanaging. This game is a micromanagers wet dream. You control everything, every individuals workplace, job, diet. The game is also very atmospheric- if you are into chillout music Stellardrone plays in the soundtrack. I'm having a lot of fun here. It is a breathe of fresh air after simple economic games like Anno. So if you are into micromanagment, complex production chains and you are not pulled off by grinding- thant this is a game for you. If you are looking for a quick, easy game- maybe not so much. There is still much that needs to be implemented to the game for it to truly shine- like disasters or research. But it is already playable and enjoyable and you can see where it is going. I think it is worth supporting in early access.

Great game! Coming from an avid city builder fan, this game is great and cannot wait to see whats coming next! Of course there a a few bugs and what not but you have to expect that with early access. The tutorials lack a few things but thanks to DLCoates1 and his video on youtube, the game made sense. Looks like it will have a bit of a learning curve to it but i think thats what makes it great. Also it seems like anno 2070 and banished had a baby and this is what came out. I definately recommend this game if you are into city building games + city management. This game has some serious potential, cant wait to see whats coming. Keep it up Devs!!!!!!!

I typically do not write reviews for Early Access titles because so much can change between when the review is written and when the game is actually declared "finished," but I am totally willing to make an exception here.

If you like citybuilders, this game is right up your alley. At the time of this writing, the devs have a very strong skeleton in place and are working hard to flesh things out and balance the different systems. There currently is a lot of guesswork involved because the tutorials don't teach you everything you need to know to get a city up and running, but once I finally got the hang of things and watched some Let's Plays to better fine tune my colony, I became addicted.

Really want to like this game. Been following for years. Purchased in order to support the vision.

BUT

Even for Early Access this game is pretty messed up in terms of quality. With the latest update, text doesn't appear in the right spot or doesn't register roll-over properly and disappears unless I move the mouse just so. Combined with an incredibly unfriendly UI design and that makes this game a definite NO recommendation. If you want to be an alpha tester... sure. But playing this game (for me) feels like I'm back at my old job debugging other people's crappy programs.

The tutorials are ok (they take an HOUR to complete!), but what the game really needs is some kind of advisor who helps you out with the REAL colony you start by reminding you of what to do.

all in all a really good game, i like the micromanagment side of it, if you're not into setting up chains of logistics, keeping a monitor on multiple things and basically planning things out then meybe try a game like ORB or planetbase but if you want the in depth, detailed and diverse experience then this is a good game for you. a couple of the patches seem to have reset stored materials but then it is still early access so not going to be too hung up about that, the devs are pathcing the game at a good rate in response to issues, in the 2 weeks i've had the game a number of core mechanic changes have come in that have resolved issues such as resource use and generation, there are a few niggly graphics things in the interface but again, early access and can easily overlook them, looking forward to more content and greater richness to the game as it develops

I bought this game 2 days ago, a little more than a quarter of that time has been spent playing this game. It is rich, complicated, and perhaps most importantly, difficult without being unforgiving. Can you mess up? Yes. Will it end your game? No. The game gives you all the information you need to be successful, but perhaps not in the most intuitive way. I'm excited to see how adverse weather changes the gameplay; and cannot wait till there's a story/campaign added.

game has to much micro management building long and very confusing chains of nodes and what nots to get things done.. need to make more automactic and much much much shorter time to build imo. I really wanted to like this game but its just to complicated and very repetive for the nodes and building.
