Python is the official programming language and development environment for this course.
If you are new to Python, the official Getting Started Guide and tutorials are good resources to get you started.
If you are installing Python for the first time, there are many installations, package managers, and IDEs available. It is up to you determine the environment that works best for you. One option that is flexible and works well is the Miniconda package manager and VSCode, but there are many others available. If you already have a Python installation and workflow that you are already comfortable with, of course you can continue using it.
The power of Python largely comes from its enormous ecosystem of Packages that are availble. In particular, we will use the following packages. Take special note of the package restritions noted in the 'Using Python Packages' section of the Homework Guidelines.
| Package | Description | Tutorial |
|---|---|---|
| NumPy | Matrix operations and linear algebra | Learning NumPy |
| Matplotlib | Visualization | Image Tutorials |
| Scikit-image | Image loading and saving | Image Load and Save functions |
Python's image coordinate system is very important to understand for this class; you might find this handy.
