My partner has had his PS3 for years. A few months ago, it stopped working. We would try to turn it on, but that familiar whirring noise didn't happen. The hard drive was dead.

I logged on to Amazon, ordered this replacement and had it in two days. Popped it in, and the machine worked like new. Of course we lost our saved games, but life goes on.

I'd definitely recommend this to someone looking to replace a hard drive in their PS3.

Like most everyone else, I bought this drive based on price.

You will receive a new, sealed drive, but it will be from a random manufacturer and a random model. Mine was a Seagate Pipeline HD Mini (5400 RPM, 8MB cache). This model was introduced six years ago in 2009 and apparently sold mainly to DVR/media server manufacturers. And I don't doubt this is where the drive came from: the business model seems to be that they buy old surplus drives from device manufacturers and sell them here. According to the date code on my drive it was actually manufactured on December 26, 2010, so it had been sitting on a shelf somewhere for well over four years by the time it was sold to me.

What this means for the customer is that there is no warranty on these drives. The drive manufacturer sold them to OEMs for use in their devices (computer, media server, whatever), and the OEMs—not the drive manufacturer—were supposed to provide warranty service as part of their warranty on the OEM device.

So if something goes wrong with your drive, you're going to be out of luck. Whether saving a few bucks is worth getting an old, random drive based on old technology that has no warranty is is a decision for you to make, but you should be aware of the tradeoffs. It was marginally worth it for me.

I received what was supposed to be a "new" drive. The item arrived sealed and ready to go. When I installed it into a customer's pc, I discovered that the "NEW" drive had data on it from a previous customer.

PEOPLE this is why YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER RECYCLE A COMPUTER WITHOUT DISTROYING THE OLD HARD DRIVE!!!

On arrival the HDD was nicely packed to help prevent vibrations in transit. Upon receiving HDD I quickly installed and installed Windows 7 on it. I was very pleased with this product, but I do wish I had the option to pick the brand of HDD. I can not complain about choose of HDD, because of the price.

After about 2 months of use, it had 92 bad sectors and 1137 errors during data transfer, and had 405 days power on time and 418 start/stop count logged(probably haven't restarted it more than 35 times). The HDD was in a safe location and not moved at all during use. I do not recommend.
