I originally bought this surge protector for my wife's Toshiba which works great. It's a two prong connector (make sure you buy the right one) which connected straight to power adapter (brick). I like these much better than the wall wart surge protectors (small block ones that attach to the outlet) because these attach to the existing power adapter which I find more convenient to carry and handle. Plus it handles either 120V or 240V power sources which is great if you take your laptop outside the US.

I almost bought another one for my Macbook Pro, but luckily I tried it out first. It doesn't quite work right with my Mac MagSafe power adapter. While the surge protector will plug into the MagSafe adapter, the cord that plugs into the wall won't connect to the female end of the surge protector because the Apple cord is flat on top instead of notched on both sides. I almost wonder if Apple specially keyed the connector so you can't use other power cords. If you're Mac power extension cord looks like this, it won't work.

Do you have your Desktop computer plugged inot a surge protector...why not your laptop then? As you travel with your laptop, you don't know about the current...don't forget to protect your laptop! I've used this for more that 7 years. Great product!

Although the amazon product description doesn't say so, this surge suppressor is rated for 100 - 240 V. This means that it can handle the voltages in the electrical systems of other countries. I had no problems using this gadget in the UK a few months ago, and it should be usable for other foreign destinations too.

I like the form factor of this gadget. It has a velcro strap that allows it to be fastened to the small power block of my Eee PC netbook, and I just keep it always connected. It adds a bit of bulk to the power block and cord, but not enough to be a problem. Of course, I won't know how good it is as a surge protector until/unless it experiences a power surge. I understand that APC is a major brand of power-related equipment for electronics, and that influenced my decision to buy this one.

Product seems well built and is easy to use. I like the fact that it covers surges thru either an ethernet connection OR a modem connection. A competitor's product does not do that , although it is less expensive. Surge protectors in general are hard to evaluate since you only know if they worked when you get a massive power surge. This one seems to be well built and carry's APC name which is recognized in the industry as a reliable name, although you can read complaints about anyone's products and they are no exception. I hope it works!

For surge protectors for your laptop, look no further. Their $25K warranty/protection coverage should a surge get through to destroy your computer is amazing, and quite reliable. This alone should make the selling point here. But it is also compact, very effective, protects your laptop with voltage currents of Europe and the US, and offers line protection for any wired connections to your unit. Amazing, simple, and fantastic warranty. Oh, and if the thing ever fails due to a surge, call them up, and they will send a free replacement. I am on my second one, provided free....

Edit: Didn't stand up to heavy use. The table attachment to the grey housing frayed after about a year. I expected a little more durability from APC.

Small, portable, and streamlined with a little gap in the bottom to strap it to my actual power supply. Wish it had come with a power cord that fit my Mac but otherwise seems to work great.

The catch of course is that I can't *really* test this until my laptop gets hit by a surge. APC has a good reputation so I don't think that will be an issue.

does the job like advertised.
only downside is that you can not use it on a ADSL Line faster than 5Mbit.

my workaround was simply to use the APC SurgeArrest after the ADSL Splitter to protect the telephone system only.
since the installation there where severe thunderstorms and nothing did happen.
if the protection kicks in while in a phone conversation, its noticeable by a Clicking Sound where the line is shortly interrupted while the lightning happens.

The surge protector connectors fit perfectly. The surge protector works, and I can use my laptop with it, but I can't say for sure if it REALLY works (which is why it only gets 4 out of 5). Hopefully I won't ever have to find out, but if it doesn't work, there is a $40,000 policy that comes with it to replace equipment and recover data if a surge does damage your equipment while the surge protector is in use. SAVE THE BOX AND RECEIPT in-case you ever have to make a claim.
