This is a great laptop for the price

This is a great laptop for the price. Not the best laptop ever. Seems a little slow opening things like Chrome but it does do a good job with many different windows open at once. Windows 8.1 is terrible but I can't blame that on Asus. Initial updates took around two hours to install. This laptop is thin and light, but I don't like how big the picture frame is around the LCD. Looks like something from the mid 90s. It has a great selection of ports, I was surprised to find VGA. The speakers are really surprisingly loud for their size. Not the best quality, but better than any other laptop I've ever had. The battery life is very good - almost 5 hours. I plan on installing a SSD shortly, this should help speed things up a little. I'm annoyed that the battery is permanently installed, but I guess that is rather common these days. The power supply is nice and small and the computer does not use very much power - so it doesn't get very hot either. I wish it had built in Bluetooth, but for the price, I don't think any of them do. The touch screen is very nice but I don't like the response of the touch pad.

Had to come back and edit my review after a few days. I HATE the keyboard! It's hard to line up my hands with the keys without looking at it. They aren't too small, just not laid out very well. You also have to push down really hard! It constantly misses characters and is slowing down my typing significantly. My 10 year old laptop had a much better keyboard! I guess I can live with it but this machine is definitely not for a coder or writer.

The first time I ordered this, Amazon sent me the old (slower) version by mistake. On top of this, it didn't even work, the computer was defective.Read more ›

Perfect for everyday use.

Bough this for my wife, and she loves it. She is a teacher and does not have any hardcore programs that she needs to run.

This is an awesome little computer.

Pros:
Love the touch Screen: I've used all types of touch screens, I am impressed with this one. Very responsive, and simple. I am not sitting there touching something a million times. Works well.
Screen: I'm impressed with the screen, she gets good clarity out of it.
Size: This is perfect for her, as we travel often, and she is continually carrying it back and forth from school, as she is a teacher. It is light, and sleek.

Cons:
Speed: It is obviously not blazing fast. She uses it for surfing the internet, listening to music, word documents, and powerpoint presentations. This machine is more than capable for all of that. This is not something you want to get to run large programs.

Absolute junk

Touch screen is finicky and often unresponsive. Logging in can take two or three minutes. Battery life is only an hour or two due mostly to the fact that memory and CPU run at close to 100% every second. I've run anti-virus software, checked all the processes, uninstalled unnecessary software, checked the health of the processor and RAM and can't find any thing wrong. The computer's brand new and runs worse than the six year old laptop I was replacing.

Nice and portable system

Nice and portable system, specs good enough for day to day typical operations. The touchscreen element is an added plus. Was surprise how loud the speakers are for it's size. My only complaint is he keyboard, found the individual keys to be small and spacing between them limited, which is understood. Other than that this is a great laptop.

A Very Good And Snappy Machine That Has Minor Flaws

I've only had the laptop for a few days but I can already say this: The touchscreen is very responsive and since this computer runs Windows 8.1 the touch capability is almost necessary. The keyboard is a little small but gives a solid click when typing and there is little or no chassis flexing. The celeron processor is low end but i have been playing gt racing 2 without any lag or stuttering. When surfing the web or watching you-tube it takes a little extra time to load the page but it isn't enough to really complain about. So far the experience on Microsoft office is also very smooth which is good because this is a very good laptop for a student on the go; I know this because I am one. The computer also runs relatively cool so the fan rarely kicks on and the computer is relatively quiet. The speakers aren't great quality but they are plenty loud enough. The touch pad is also very responsive and the multi-touch is a very handy thing as well, it hasn't froze yet. I really enjoy this computer and it is definitely worth the money. The webcam is also pretty good and surprisingly doesn't lag too much. My only complaint is that while the material quality is on par, the whole machine seems to be a magnet for fingerprints, this includes the touchscreen display to. I do recommend that you purchased this computer. You will probably be happy, I know that I am!

NOT a touchscreen but cheap and works well

Works fast and well... upgraded it to Windows 10 as soon as that was available, with no problems at all. But notice: K200 is NOT a touchscreen. Even though the plastic film shipped on the LCD says "Touch Screen" right on it. The K200MA model IS touchscreen. I didn't mind either way, just wanted a cheap little notebook with USB3, all the other assorted ports (HDMI, SD, etc.) and a decent processor for my husband. He can Skype much better, and backups are faster than the old Netbook he was using.

Only other problem is that the trackpad totally sucks in every way. Too sensitive when you try to lightly move the cursor -- it'll jump all over the place. If you actually press to click, the click won't happen on the object you wanted, because the cursor will have jumped. Oh, and very noisy clicks. Light double-taps are better to accomplish click actions. You'll really just want to use an external mouse.
