Great lower to mid end computer!

Bought this for my Daughter. She wanted a 17"+ screen and preferred a touch screen. She even preferred a large HD to store pictures and music.
Pro's: This fits very well in how she uses a computer. She basically watches Hulu/Netflix/YouTube etc. Web browsing, music, simple (computer resource wise) games. Word processing, task lists, calendar. and grew up with a IPhone and apps so even the Win8 was not a problem for her. 8GB memory, fast (if slightly older) processor.

Cons: Win8, even she is surprised how it has to switch between desktop to tiled side of Windows. But not a big issue for her and it's a WINDOWS failure. Touchpad seems awkward at times.

Other thoughts: Would definably buy again for how she uses a computer and would recommend this computer.
1st one came in with busted screen and the 2nd day guarantee took 4 business days! But that was FedEx who also PLOPPED it on porch with my door open without even knocking and box slightly crushed. I wish they would NEVER use them again. HOWEVER, amazon replacement was VERY fast, They used UPS and box was in great shape and arrived 1.5 days later! So this really does not effect rating because things happen and so far it's performed very well.

Great Powerhouse, with small drawbacks

There are a lot of things I love about this laptop. It's very fast (8GB of RAM with a 2.16GHz processor) and sturdy, has a large hi-res screen, and can comfortably run Steam games such as Team Fortress 2 and Batman: Arkham City without too much of a problem. It doesn't come with too much bloatware (these days, what laptop doesn't?), and has AMAZING speakers. The touchscreen is also great, although I don't use it very much. On the times that I did, it seemed pretty accurate and responsive.

Some drawbacks are the mouse touchpad; it's very slow and not the best out there. I often have to use a USB mouse to work effectively. All of the USB ports are located on one side of the computer, which I'm not the hugest fan of. The provided charger is also very short; I've yet to find a longer replacement charger.

I will say that this laptop was worth it, in general. The minor cons are outweighed by more pros if you're looking to upgrade from an older laptop.

Ran great right out of the box

Ran great right out of the box. Personally, for me, the power cord is plenty long enough. I'm not a 'techy' but was able to locate my wireless printer well (Neighbor had to help me a little). It's perfect for my needs. I did not realize that it did not come with Microsoft Word, Excel, etc...but downloaded Open Office free online and my Microsoft/excel documents on my thumbdrive merged beautifully with Open Office! Key pad nice sized. I came from windows 7 so still getting used to 8.1 tiles. But I do use my smartphone a lot and find that tapping, scrolling and moving around my document or website just by using my finger is awesome!!! I prefer that to the touchpad mouse. When I do need a mouse I bought a wireless trackball and that does the trick also.
Another web site I was looking at had it for $150.00 more. All in all, very happy. (And my tech/geek neighbor said stay away from "HP & Dell". It he couldn't talk me into an Apple, then buy an ASUS.

I had to exchange the first one I received with Amazon because it had a touchscreen defect out of the box. I have found this is typical ASUS quality control. I have purchased a lot of their products (see my review of the T100-Chi as an example). Their designs are good, their prices are great, but I found that they have a high incidence of out of the box defects. The parallel replacement process that Amazon provides within the first 30 days makes up for that, though and aside from the time lost deploying the bad unit, this was painless and the replacement unit is working great.

Great laptop with excellent screen.

Outstanding laptop with a very sensitive and accurate touch screen. The speed and video response have been more than adequate for the youtube, streaming movies and games played on it. The keyboard is a little stiff, and I still miss the positive click of the old IBM thinkpads, but that is something we will never have again. The space bar is a little touchy in that you need to hit it in the middle to get the response. Too far to the edge and it does not respond. Otherwise, this has been one of the best laptops I have yet to purchase.

One thing I find that bugs me is very often when I am typing, and hit the space bar to separate words, I have to hit the space bar twice because the first time I do it, it didn't move. That's driving me a bit crazy right now.
