So Far, Pretty Good

This is more of a first impression since I have only had it a few days. I was looking for a highly portable computing device. My criteria was portability, functionality, and price. I looked at tablets as well as notebook style computers to cover the portability requirement. Since my home/primary computer is Windows, the functionality to interact with it caused me to eliminate Android devices. And a combination of price and functionality ruled out Apple devices. I chose the Asus, based on reviews of it and comparable devices on both Amazon and tech sites. After receiving it, the first thing I did was apply the Win-10 upgrade. After that, as with most Windows devices, I spent a day tweaking the settings until I had it customized to my preferences. Overall, I am pleased with it after my setup. It boots pretty fast for a low powered device, and runs all of my preferred software. Fortunately, Asus did not load it up with a ton of bloatware. I still don't get why every PC manufacturer feels they have to add their own versions of common software (Email picture viewer,etc). With only a 64GB flash drive, there was only about 28GB left after installing Win10. Since I wasn't planning on ever using Win 8, I deleted those files after the upgrade and got back to about 42GB available. I also added a 64GB micro-SD card.

What I like: Size and weight, it weighs 2lbs, 7oz on my kitchen scale. Keyboard, I am not a 'power' typist, but the chiclet keyboard works well for me. Also, the touch-pad took some getting used to, but after several days I like it. Screen is clear and bright, and the touch is accurate. The touch screen is actually better than my Nexus 7 Android tablet. I also find the keyboard connecting latch easy to use. I like that the screen attaches with a positive 'click'. No idea where all of the complaints are coming from. This Tablet runs windows 10 fantastic and absolutely kills it. Excellent value for the money. Don't forget the latest BIOS update. Apple is going to have their hands full when these devices begin to catch on further. I have full windows and full office in the palm of my hand. Great for streaming my Xbox in bed.

Well worth it.

Immediately upgraded it to Windows 10. There were a few slight glitches, such as cursor disappearing, that were fixed by reloading drivers. (even though Windows said they were installed correctly). There is no bloatware on this, save some Windows apps that you may never want to use anyway. After installing the usual anti-virus/anti-malware and firewall, I have not had any notable problem. As some have noted, the screen is not the top-of-the-line (for Asus), but its definitely better than average, and clear with nice colors. I have found that I don't really use it as a tablet much, and prefer it as a small notebook -- but it functions fine as a tablet also. I have no complaints and definitely find it extremely nice for its price point.

Fun little device

Bought this for my husband who is not tech savvy whatsoever and wanted a smaller device after his laptop crashed and burned. He had a miserable time trying to learn windows 8 and begged for the upgrade to 10. I had a really difficult time upgrading to windows 10, multiple tried and failed downloads. It appears several updates needed to be completed prior to the upgrade. FINALLY finished the upgrade and it seems to work pretty well (so far)-my husband is pretty happy with the device. I was a bit worried but the touch screen is not a problem, and we have no problem with our home WiFi detection (but haven't tried hotspot logins). The chiclet keyboard is pretty small but not a problem- even for my hubby's big ol working guy hands. The tab is able to connect to our network storage-WD My book Live to backup. You definitely need an expansion card as the HD is half full already. Its a handy little machine for web surfing, watching movies, and generally goofing off, but too small for any real work IMHO.

SO BOTTOMLINE
Touch screen works well
No issues with WiFi
Buy an expansion card to store pictures and such
Finish all updates before attempting Windows 10 upgrade

I got one of these from Amazon a few days ago. It worked well initially but then said there was no home wifi when my other computer and roku device were sensing the home wifi just fine. So I did a reset. Lost what ever I had placed on it, programs and files and lost the windows office which windows would not replace. So I am sending it back in order to get the free office on the next one. But in an effort to figure out the problem I did a reset again. The device worked fine for an hour then went to sleep even though I had set things so it would not sleep for five hours on the power cord or with the battery. When it turned it on again, no wifi. This has happened four times. My 8 year old Dell xp just keeps connecting fine. I am getting another asus, but I fear it will too be junk..
I RECEIVED THE SECOND AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM_ set it up worked fine, added programs worked fine, set it so it would not turn off under power, worked fine, Turned it off- NO WIFI ---DON'T BUY THIS!!!

I like the computer.HOWEVER, I had to send it back due to power button issues just like everyone else.The replacement computer is working fine all except the TOUCH PAD.Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.I upgraded to Windows 10 on the first computer but when I did I lost my webcam.I haven't upgraded with this replacement computer as of yet.8.1 is a pretty decent operating system for now and I don't want anymore problems right now.I suggest getting the 64GB Micro SD so you have some space to work with.I do wish it gave us "Regular" Office instead of the year subscription.But most computers don't give you Office at all, so it will be nice having it for a year.Finally, it's so nice having the FULL version of Windows instead of a "Smartphone"OS.Good deal for the money but it seems like the price keeps going up.If you have just a bit more to spend, I would suggest getting the ASUS Transformer Book with the front and rear facing camera,USB 3.0, and the Full HD screen.I have read the reviews on it and it seems there are less hassles.May be worth it to spend that little bit extra!
