Great little travel computer

I bought this at Best Buy, but figured that everyone (myself included) comes to Amazon to read reviews even if we end up shopping elsewhere ")

I bought the Asus Transformer t100 TAF as a travel/secondary computer. It's only jobs are to allow me to write (I'm an author), check email, and do some web surfing while I'm away from home and my bigger, faster laptop. It also lets me lend my laptop to my hubby, whose laptop died--but I get to write my work purchases off on my taxes, so it makes sense for me to get a new one :) The fact that this guy has made my aging Kindle redundant is a serious bonus.

The Transformer t100 definitely does not multi-task very well--but right now, I have three tabs open, including Pandora, and Word running and it's just fine. It only starts to stress out when I'm playing video. Since that wasn't it's job, that's not a big deal. I didn't splurge on the upgrade (64 GB) because I was pretty confident I wouldn't need it. If you want to load much more than Windows and a handful of apps, you may want to spend the extra hundred bucks. The upgraded version has a faster processor as well.

What I love:
A Windows based system. I already had a laptop with a touch screen and Windows 8 (which lives up to it's reputation both good and bad) so there was no learning curve with the Asus Transformer.

The screen comes off and becomes a tablet. A very simple tablet, but it meets my needs just fine. (Mostly I only separate the screen and keyboard to read ebooks). The screen and keyboard come apart and go back together easily.

A real, solid keyboard--but it is very small. For me that's no issue (I have small hands), but I can't imagine one of my big, tall guy-friends trying to use it.Read more ›

I bought three of these for my employees to use and so far they have been great. I think they are built with a decent amount of sturdiness and don't feel cheap at all. You have the benefit of having a tablet and a computer in one product. Our employees will be using these during their travels, so I feel better knowing that we are not losing an enormous amount of money if one is lost, broken, or stolen.
The keyboard is just the right size. The screen removes easily to use as a tablet. Couldn't ask for anymore for the price.

Complete Nightmare

I bought a refurbished T100 and it has been a complete nightmare. The first problem was out of nowhere when I booted it up, it requested a bit recovery key number. I called Asus, the middle person, and Microsoft. The link said it could be found on my MS account page, but the page said the bit key was not available. Microsoft said it was an Asus problem, Asus said a MS problem, and the middle person not there's. I spent about 10 wasted hours until I Google 'd it and was led back to MS Web page where I found the key hidden in links. MS problem and system that they knew nothing about.

Then about a month later I booted the tablet and it shut down after 20 minutes, continuing to do so. Back to Asus, no help, then MS and had to pay $149 for their annual laptop tech assistane. Tech assured me they could fixed the problem and remoted into my tablet. Hour later, problem not fixed and referred to Asus for a possible battery failure. Told by Asus it could cost $200 to fix it. I pleaded to them because the tablet was for school and only six months old, and if they checked their records they could see I had issues from the time I bought. I was told sorry Mr. A......., that is all we can do for you. Because Asus' motto is incomparable customer service, I will never purchase another product from them. I know that the majority of Asus products are fine, their actions towards me set my future tone for purchasing. FYI, never buy a refurbished electronics.

The tablet is not charging or can be turned off. As I checked reviews on Amazon and other sites I see is not an isolated problem. This tablet looks fine on paper otherwise it sucks. Another bad thing even the tablet is defective, not my fault, amazon charged me $5 to return it.
