In the interest of full disclosure, let me state up front that I'm a Mac guy. I've been using strictly Apple computers and devices for the last several years, with the exception of a couple of Windows laptops I was issued by my employer. Even so, I have found this ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP200SA-DH04T 11.6" laptop to be a very handy machine.

The size of this device is very handy. It's just about the same thickness as my 13" MacBook Pro and is very light. This makes it very portable. It was also very easy to set up. From the moment the unit was first turned on, I was guided through the setup process on-screen and everything went very smoothly. To my surprise, I even found Windows 10 to be very manageable. In the past, that hasn't always been the case with me and Windows.

The speed of this Transformer isn't the greatest, but it's still decent. I noticed the biggest slow-downs when browsing the Web and watching videos. I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or if it might have something to do with the Microsoft Edge browser. (I've also tried Google's Chrome browser, but can't really say that it made things any faster.) The storage space on this machine is pretty limited, so I'm thinking it would only suffice as a secondary device for most people. Even though the advertised storage capacity on the SSHD is 64 GB, I checked this morning and Windows tells me that there is only 29.9 GB of free space left. That's not very much, and the only thing I've downloaded or saved to the device is Google Chrome. That said, ASUS does provide 500 GB of Web storage space, which appears to be entirely free. So if you don't mind storing stuff in the Cloud, maybe you'll be alright.

My biggest complaint about this "laplet" is the display.

This laptop looks slim and smart, with various slim ports around its edge. There is no VGA port, but a micro HDMI port instead. Although its weight is listed as 2.6 pounds it feels heavier than you might expect, perhaps due to its plastic body, or just your expectations for a tablet, which this is not. The keyboard and mouse have a nice feel.

You should charge it for 3 hours before using it on battery alone. It did not feel overly warm after a couple of hours of use. It's quiet since it does not have a fan.

You can use this in various modes, Including tablet mode, and tent mode. For whatever reason they chose to keep rotation lock on as a default setting, which may confuse some users until they change the setting, which will then allow the laptop to rotate its display when in tent mode. The screen is a fingerprint magnet but you won't notice this while using it (unless you're watching a scary movie and most of the screen is dark).

Let me say first of all that I have been using Windows 7 and a Mac and have not used Windows 8.1 regularly or Windows 10. The times I have had to use Windows 8.1 have been a terrible, confused and disjointed user experience. As a new user of Windows 10 I have to say that this terrible experience is continued here. If you're a seasoned user of these operating systems, though, you should have no problem using this tablet. If not, I recommend you set it to desktop mode.

I could not initially start speech recognition on this tablet, as it complained that there was some kind of problem with the hardware. However, the next time I tried, it succeeded.

I'm used to using Chromebooks and older netbook-type small laptops, and in comparison the keyboard is surprisingly easy to type on when its in laptop mode, which should make this a good at-home backup machine for work. In terms of usability, it took some minor hunting to get the screen to unlock when folding the keyboard back to use tablet mode. When in tablet mode, at the default resolution the on-screen keyboard may be challenging to use and a stylus may be more useful. Had some minor screen locking when the processor was pressed hard while rotating the screen but clicking back or shutting the offending process down seemed to clear the issue. I removed McAfee and used the default Windows Defender, which seemed to speed it up a bit--we also run into this issue with a Windows10 desktop after we upgraded. Have not tried Chrome on the device yet, but based on the issues with Chrome on the same desktop I may not load it depending on how much disc space its consumes. Overall, not displeased with how well it performs otherwise and very happy with its portability and its larger screen in comparison to a tablet. Also, the touch interface issues obviously disappear when its used in the laptop mode. Also I really liked to start a video and tent it on the desk to watch it. No, its not a development machine or a gaming rig but its really nice once you consider its form factor, portability, and what 9/10ths of people would use a flipbook for and it does its job extremely well.

I am so happy to have this. When I decided to get a laptop computer, I was torn between getting a windows based laptop or a Chromebook. What I needed it for was the ability to watch videos and read PDF files while in my studio or craft/sewing room. So, in the interest of saving myself some money, I chose to get the Chromebook. Don't get me wrong, I love my Chromebook for surfing the web, but there were times that I wished I had gotten a real laptop computer instead.

This little laptop is just the thing I needed. This is my first time seeing Windows 10, I'm still using Windows 8 on my desktop computer, and Windows 10 takes some getting used to, but it's not too bad. I'm still not upgrading my desktop to 10 though.

I like this laptop because it is smaller and doesn't take up a lot of space on my work table. I can do everything with this that I can do on my desktop. Something I can't really do with my Chromebook. It is very portable and light and easy to carry. I also like the way it can fold down and be more like a tablet. That comes in handy when I'm looking at the computer in bed. I find the picture display to be perfectly acceptable for what I need the laptop for. It was easy to set up with the rest of the network. Very nice little laptop computer. I am very happy with it.
