An Affordable Powerhouse That Needs A Little TLC To Be Magnificent

In the past, Acer computers just weren't reliable. This issue was made a bit worse when they absorbed Gateway and eMachines into their company and those had their own mess of troubles, but it seems things have turned around for them. First, it was my Wife's Acer from 2012, it's still running rock solid and is even capable of running Windows 10. Now, I have the model listed in this review because it was a killer deal on Amazon's Prime Day and I thought "Well, I'll give it a shot." and I'm glad I did.

It's been quite reliable and I've put it through the ringer just to see what it was capable of, so I put Windows 7 on it, reinstalled 8.1 (which it came with) and finally upgraded it to 10 (which is free for the next year until the last week of July '16.) and all of it worked without a hitch, aside from 7 because there are no touchpad drivers for this computer. (I recommend 10, it's smooth as silk on this system.)

Its APU (processor and graphics all on one chip) is quite powerful while being energy efficient when using battery saver. (I've gotten nearly 7 hours out of a single charge!) On top of that, the 1 GB of shared video RAM makes it more than capable of playing older games such as Left 4 Dead 2 on high settings (1080p) and max settings (1650), right out of the box and some newer games such as Arkham City on lower, but still respectable, settings.

It says on paper this processor runs at 1.9 ghz and has a turbo setting of 3.2 ghz, but Windows 10 seems to keep it running at around 2.2-2.Read more ›

Nice laptop - one small complaint

I like this little darling except for the sticky space bar. It doesn't insert a space every time I use the space bar, so I spend a lot of time backtracking to correct. I'll google to see if there is a fix. Otherwise, it's a nice laptop!

Great laptop. You get what you pay for, lots of plastic, the keyboard isn't good for gaming if you plan to do so. It is actually quite fast after 2 mins of it booting up. It is heavy, 5.5 lbs which is kinda a lot. It also gets very hot since it is an AMD APU chip. Overall, I think it's a great laptop for the price for school and it can also do light gaming like TF2, CSGO and MineCraft
