Great computer, but loaded with junk programs which need to be uninstalled after purchase

I have been working on computers since the 80's, so I have a good background in computers. So my wife wanted a new computer so she can go back and get her masters. I researched them, and for the price this worked well. It's fast, however, loaded with tons of junk software I had to remove. Moreover, I use Webroot Secure anywhere Anti virus (which I highly recommend) and it even pulled up two pre-installed virus purchase trackers. I wasn't happy with that. However, as I said, the computer is a good one if you know how to remove all the pre-installed junk.

BTW, I quickly removed the virus software installed, it's junk and tries to get you to buy a bunch of crappy add ons.

I must return this laptop due to manufacturing defects. It it cheaply assembled, powercord plug in port on the laptop is slightly misaligned making it difficult to plug in. Powercord itself disconnects itself at the inverter box built into the cord. Taskbar clock keeps changing erratically (it was 11:10am all day yesterday and correct today), suggesting CMOS battery may be weak (according to google).

I like how people are complaining about other products made by acer, this is a laptop not a tablet so go gripe somewhere else! THIS IS GREAT! i play all kinds of steam games and recording videos and i dont lag a bit! i even skype with my buddies and havent had problems with anything so far, acer really outdid themselves with this laptop and for $550.00 you cant go wrong! worth WAY more than the price! with and i7 and 8 gigs of ram you definetly will not have any problems with this laptop. although the keyboard and mouse pad isnt great, the laptop itself makes up for it. worth $700.00 if you asked me. all you need to play great games with this is a mouse, bag, mousepad, and a cooler so your computer doesnt heat because this thing does get really hot and freezes if u let it get too hot, so i would purcahse a 10-20 dollar cooler and you should run the gae town like a pro while all your other buddies lag hardcore, and if you are looking for a computer to do school work on this works great as well. although the graphics could be better this thing is outstranding! 10/10 would purcahse again!!

The hotkeys require pressing down the function key for the more common button presses (this is irreversible, unlike other computers),
neither number lock nor Caps lock stay in effect after putting the computer to sleep,
the trackpad not only has terrible sensitivity but the left mouse click is getting stuck after only 2 months of using the computer,
the internet connection is spotty,
and Chrome constantly freezes and restarts where it did not on my other 4-year-old computer.

On the other hand, the battery life is still good, but I have only been using the computer for two months.

Acer should be ashamed of themselves

Acer should be ashamed of themselves. I purchased new modem. Tablet(s), phone (Vonage) and Roku had no problems but Acer laptop was unable to receive the wifi signal. I contacted Acer support and they passed me off to a third party Tech Suport. The problem was diagnosed as being a driver problem. However I was unable to access Acer’s drivers on my own. Whenever I entered my SNID the site responded with a msg that "the drivers were unavailable" (paraphrasing). The funny thing was once I paid the 3rd party service $99 to have the problem fixed the driver was available. I went back to Acer support re-entered my SN/ID and the drivers were available. The problem turned out to be the driver needed to be reloaded and the connection re-established. This is something I could have done myself. If Acer is going to hire a 3rd party Tech Support they should insure these people are reputable. Acer should allow access to their customer service so issues like this can be reported.

-if you are a gamer, you can play most games medium settings very well. Solid framerate, minimal to nonexistent stuttering. It's i7 and 8gb ram doing its job well

-yours might not have this but mine had a free upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 10 has its own pros and cons, but as a whole, the computer benefits from it.

-if you don't have word or powerpoint or excel, this computer has plenty of preinstalled stuff. This may be a plus or minus. Personally, it's a bit of both because i couldn't download microsoft word for a while and acers version of word covered me until then.

-Sleek design and the fan won't burn your leg off. Previous laptop had the fan on the bottom, this one is on the side.

-Still has a cd rom RW

-----NEGATIVES

-IF YOU DOWNLOAD WINDOWS 10, YOU CANNOT USE YOUR WINDOWS 7, 8, OR 8.1 BACKUPS! MAKE SURE YOU ARE AWARE OF THIS BEFORE PURCHASING. IF YOU WANT TO BACK UP FILES, YOU WILL HAVE TO MANUALLY COPY AND PASTE THEM. However, if you do have the backup saved on a usb drive or some external hard drive, then you can manually open your backup and copy and paste the individual files from the back up itself. This is what I ended up doing. Most, if not all, backups can be manually opened by this computer when you plug them in, so that all you have to do is copy and paste them from the hard drive/usb to your new computer. This a windows 10 thing, not the fault of the computer, so if you choose not buy this computer, this issue will still be relevant to you if the computer you buy is preloaded or offers you to download windows 10.
