The Windows assault on Chromebooks continues with the Acer Aspire E 11.

Like the HP Stream 11 I reviewed last week, this new computer from Acer sports an Intel Celeron N2840 processor at 2.16 ghz, 2 gigs of RAM and 32GB of solid state hard drive space.

It is pretty much identical to the HP Stream 11 in performance. Web browsing is responsive and snappy, and it's possible to play some lower end games on it. But there are some differences that make the HP Stream 11 a better value.

1. The HP Stream 11 has a larger battery than the Acer Aspire E 11

2. The HP Stream 11 has a better keyboard

3. SD cards can be inserted flush to the HP Stream 11 but half of the card sticks out on the Acer Aspire E 11.

4. The Acer Aspire E 11 has less available space for the Windows operating system and user files because of the large size of its recovery partition.

5. The HP comes with a one year subscription to Office 365.

The one thing the Acer has that the HP doesn't is an ethernet port.

This is not to say that the Acer is a bad machine - it isn't. But the HP offers more than the Acer does for the same price.

I purchased this laptop for $199.99. This laptop is very light, it has a nice touch-pad and keyboard. It has all the features that were advertised. The SSD which has only 32GB has only 13GB available for personal use for documents or install any application. For the price and the features that this laptop offers I am satisfied with it.

I don't often write reviews, but I was so impressed by this little guy I had to. I'm a bit of a techie and I prefer Linux, so I own an Acer C720p with crouton and chrubuntu but need Windows for school and my other Windows laptop died. I grew to love the 11.6 inch laptop and wanted another that size. The processing power of this computer is pretty low, but that's okay it was $199 and I haven't really felt its low power yet. I did run peacekeeper on chrome in Windows and a Linux live environment and while windows scored around 1300, Linux scored about 1700 (the C720p scores 3000 in ChromeOS). I did upgrade the ram to 4gb because that seems to be a minimum for Windows today and it was very easy (remove all screws in back and the motherboard, disconnect display and flip the board over, since the RAM slot is on the back). The screen is on par with some of the other laptops I've owned that cost 500$ and even has better viewing angles. So far I've gotten 5+ hours doing intensive tasks like watching videos and re-installing Windows, and have gotten 8 or more typing out documents for school. It weighs near to nothing and is light enough to hold in 1 hand without really worrying about dropping it. If I dropped it that might even be OK, because it seems sturdy. There is no significant flex in the keyboard, the screen does not bob back-and-forth when the laptop is moved. My favorite thing about the computer is actually the keyboard and has led me to use the E11 more than my C720p. It is compact but very usable and has a good amount of travel in the keys, so I feel my typing experience is not effected by the size.

#Update: Black Friday I upgraded to a Dell Inspiron i3147 2in1 (also twice the price) which I use more than the E11.

Excellent notebook! Works great. Internet access fast and perfect. Everything is working great.Windows 8.1 is very helpful. Skype and Facebook access also very fast! Battery quite good - more than 5 hours! I am very content with my new Mini Laptop. I am working with a wireless mouse but the Touch Pad is also very good. This Acer notebook is strongly recommended!

A great little laptop. Does the basics which is all I wanted. Not a ton of storage space but if you want something for general browsing that is as small as a tablet but a bit more durable and for half the price this is the way to go.

Just bought this entry level low-end laptop to replace an aging 5 year old Asus Eee netbook that I use as a test computer which, unfortunately, now takes no less than 5 full minutes to complete any single action. This laptop is very basic but it is zippier than my 5 year old netbook, which isn't saying much. Out the box there was still some lag, which is disappointing with an ssd. Scrolling through certain webpages (like The Verge) is jumpy and two finger scrolling is hit and miss. Thou the trackpad is smooth and pleasant to the touch, it doesn't register all my touches which is frustrating because I actually like touching the velvety smooth surface. A small mouse might be better served here.

It's a very nice looking laptop until you touch it. My old Asus is actually better built. The whole thing is, obviously for the price point, made out of very cheap plastic. The lower half of the track pad feels very very brittle and the delineation between left and right click is poorly implemented. Now, maybe I got a bad unit, but my very first attempt to run a scan using Avast resulted in the laptop immediately crashing and auto restarting, while making a very high pitched noise. It comes with a lot of bloat but no where near HP laptops and most if not all are removable. The screen is very bad at any angle but straight-onwards and the amount of light bleed makes any black background gray around the whole perimeter of the screen.

Having said all that thou, for the price, it still seems like a good deal (time will tell). I just wanted to be realistic about my experience. There's no need to excuse poor experience/performance because of a low price point. I'm still keeping the laptop unless some major problem crops up because, again, you can't beat the price for a non-chrome based OS.
