The Aspire V5 is a surprise value, combining a full service laptop features and a Tablet touch screen. If your V5 is running slow it is because it came from the factory loaded with spam and some bugs. Not to worry you can fix the problem, this computer will then run very fast. First delete McAfee. Next install SpyBot or another software that will clean out spam and bugs. If you don't know how to do this take your V5 to a computer tech, it will be worth your effort. Rate the V5 five star.

This is a great computer! Its small and very portable. Ive read some of the negative reviews about this product on here and I believe this computer has great potential if you know what to do. The touch screen is very responsive considering its size. Fresh out of the box this computer may seem slow and sluggish. Not to worry; all you need to do is remove the preinstalled junk. Such as McAfee and Norton. This takes no time at all and will make your system run smoother and faster. Also remember that Microsoft security essentials is already included in your software. So no need for McAfee in the first place. I also recommend installing Firefox. Internet Explorer runs fine but Firefox seems to run just a little bit faster. Its also great that you have the option to upgrade to Windows 8.1 for free!! I

I made a bad mistake buying this. On the plus side it's good looking and light. On the bad side it's awfully slow at everything. I was replacing an old samsung netbook for travel which ironically outperforms this speed-wise in every way. If you buy you will be disappointed. Avoid!

I bought this used locally on Craigslist for much less, but it was a very good value. I installed the Xubuntu (a Linux ubuntu variant) O/S which I use as dual-boot and that went straightforwardly (except Xubuntu does not like the Bluetooth). I like the physical size (small enough to fit into a full page manila envelope), the low power (it does not get hot) and the 4GB/500GB storage. I have a video adapter on order, will update my review with HDMI and digital video out performance evaluations when that comes in.
I don't like: an SD card is not the standart click in, click out, so the card sticks out about 1/2" when in use, so you can't keep a micro SD card adapter in the unit at all times. Also, although it has a dual color battery charge light and a power light, there are no disk activity or caps lock lights. The HDD activity indicator is key in using Windows because it thrashes your hard drive a lot. The trackpad picks up your hands when typing so the insertion cursor will jump up into type you have already composed frequently. This is not unique to this computer; my older HP did it with about the same frequency. I hate trackpads.

This computer runs fine if you take some time to update the system. I bought this at Walmart on Thanksgiving at a much lower price than listed here. I also read the reviews before I bought it--one reviewer on Walmart listed all the steps he took, in the necessary order, to make this work well (removing McAfee, doing all the BIOS updates, doing all the Windows 8 updates, updating to Windows 8.1...). I followed his suggestions and also updated a few drivers after I finished with the Windows 8.1 updates. If you are comfortable with updating the system, this can be a very good computer. It speeds up quite a bit. For the price I paid, I'm very happy with it--good wifi connection, nice screen, nice touchpad, good keyboard, plenty of room on the hard drive. If you aren't comfortable updating the system (or don't know someone else who is) or don't have the time to do all the downloads and installation updates, then this is not a good computer for you.

Luckily I didn't buy this computer on Amazon - I got it for free due to an emachines class action settlement.

That's about where the positives end, though. The computer is incredibly poorly designed. I took it out of the box and it took me about ten minutes to find the power button - it's on the side of the computer, right next to one of the USB ports! It's incredibly easy to press the button when plugging in or unplugging a peripheral. Another design flaw is the location of the lights indicating charging and operation - they're at the top of the keyboard right by the screen, making them invisible when the computer is closed.

Additionally, the computer is amazingly slow. I ordered it hoping it could act as a replacement for my dying Dell laptop, purchased in 2008 for $500. Up until it's harddrive failed, though, my aging Dell was significantly faster and capable of running much more intensive applications, despite having less RAM and a much older processor. My Acer frequently runs out of memory for programs when all I have open is Google Chrome and one or two other programs.

I wouldn't even recommend this computer for web browsing because of how slow and unstable it is. I honestly can't see how it would be genuinely useful for anyone.

This was a horrible buy! This computer should never had win 8 on it....
It turns itself off all the time, is slower then my old android cell phone and its battery only lasts 2hrs, that is if it even stays on that long.... usually cuts out within 15 min at the most random times. The touch pad also stopped working for me..
