Can't Beat It For The Price!

I was looking for a basic desktop replacement. My normal usage is watching movies, typing papers for work, transferring files over the network, and basic gaming.
This laptop handles applications with no problems. It has an amazing battery life. The only time I have ever felt it get the slightest warm in my lap was playing World of Warcraft while it was charging. The charger was warmer than the laptop. I can play my games at medium to low settings depending on the game. I play WoW on medium settings and it looks great with no lag. The wifi on this outperforms all my external adapters on my other computers and laptops.
I think Acer has done decent job on their bloatware. Some of the 3rd party software has made this easier to use than our Dell laptop. I haven't been hindered by anything yet that made me want to msconfig this thing out of the box. You hp and lenovo users know what I mean. Everything has worked. I haven't had any errors, hang up, reboots, lags, or annoying popups yet. I have been using it for hours a day since I got it a couple weeks ago.
I wanted to have a long enough time using this laptop before giving it any stars. I feel the 2.5 stars it has is unjust for a great less than $600 laptop. It looks nice, isn't heavy, hooked right up to my bluetooth devices, and has been very simple to navigate. If you want a main gaming laptop then look someplace else. My benchmarks were very similar to the other users.
I recommend this to anybody looking to spend less on a laptop. The only downside to this is no DVD rom. However, a usb3 port should solve that problem should I choose to buy an external at a later date. So far no need for one.

-If its in sleep mode for more than ~1 hour then the touch pad doesn't turn back on. It is really frustrating to have to plug in a mouse, disable touch pad drivers, then turn them back on again. I can't seem to find an answer anywhere on how to fix this. I would definitely give a 5 start if this issue was fixed.

For a $399.00, this laptop is excellent. Usually a laptop with these specs would probably cost around $500-600, so its really worth the price. Been using it for a few days and no problems so far. The touchpad functions great, but is a little too big, so that when the left hand is typing, it will touch the edge of the touchpad and make the cursor move. The screen/display monitor(?) is really thin and feels really fragile and so I would recommend not putting too much pressure on it, and not to use it for travelling because you can accidentally damage the screen. With the cpu core i5-5200u and the gpu Intel HD Graphics 5500, many games can be played, but obviously not the newest ones. (I will list some of the games for some of you who would want to know.)
It can play (*if set on high performance):
Dirty Bomb - low settings (30-40 fps)
Need For Speed Most Wanted - lowest settings (~30-35fps)
Minecraft - lowest settings (110-282 fps) or highest settings (45-59 fps)
Unturned - ULTRA settings (everything on and on ULTRA) (17-25 fps) or medium settings (44 fps-70 fps) or lowest settings (78 fps - 120 fps)

The 6gb ram is more than enough for what I use. The battery life is roughly a little over 3 hours on power plan set to high performance, I'm sure you can get an hour or two more if you turn down the brightness a bit and set power plan to power saver.
The Keyboard feels very nice and the top of the cover of the laptop feels extremely smooth as well as around the keyboard and trackpad. Definitely a must buy

Great, solid computer for the price! - even with some minor drawbacks.

I was very excited to receive this laptop and overall is a good bang for the buck. After a lot of research and review of budget laptops under $500, acer seemed to have an all around good rating. Very little bloatware. weight is not too heavy. The plastic body on this computer feels firm with no flex anywhere & hinges are fairy strong. Wifi, although not having lost any connection, seems to be weak. I'll try to update drivers later to see if this helps. The speakers are on the bottom? So even though there is a good range of volume, the sound is rather muffled. I don't see why the speakers couldn't have been placed maybe on top, above the function keys?

The touch-pad, and screen quality however are another story. The touch pad is a nice size, however it feels cheap, and when clicking or tapping feels hollow, like its too thin or something. The responsiveness with multi-gesture, is very much sub-par as I have had to even tap multiple times on certain links or images for it to register. Make sure when using multi-gesture, to not press even slightly hard or you could end up clicking the pad instead, which can be very annoying. Although the touch-pad is still usable, I would recommend using a mouse if possible.

The screen at 1366x 768 is not very bright, and when scrolling through pages, seems washed out a little. The text and images are around average, with sharpness and colors lagging a bit. There is some glare. No screen-bleeding around the bezels, which is good. But at this price, the screen is still good and can't complain.

The i5 performance, is not super fast, booting is standard probably due to the 5400 hdd. (An SSD would solve this for sure). But still performs well with surfing the web, and watching between 720p - 1080p videos.Read more ›
