Looking for a budget 2-in-1 for the money? Look no further! The Swith 10 is the new kid on the block.

I was eyeing on the Asus Transformer Book T100 for a while now but I haven't quite jumped on the trigger to buy one because there weren't a lot of competition for these 2 in 1 laptops. It wasn't until Acer released the Aspire Switch 10 when I finally made the decision to get one.
So sit tight while I provide a detailed and thorough review.

Design:
The designers at Acer have quite a few of awesome looking laptops. The Acer S7 with it's Gorilla Glass casing made it an eye-catcher. Did those designs carry over to the Switch 10? Well, not really.
Starting from the tablet:
The tablet has some brushed aluminium cover on the back but the rest of the tablet such as the bezels are indeed plastic.
The tablet features stereo forward facing speakers that is very impressive for a tablet. The left side of the tablet have the headphone/mic jack, power button, and volume rocker. It of course does have a built in microphone and a two mega-pixel front facing camera for video conferencing. On the right side you have the microphone hole, microSD card slot (Supports up to 128gb), micro USB 2.0 port, micro HDMI, and a separate charging port (great feature because many 2 in 1 tablets such as this one will use the micro USB port for charging which leaves you no room for you to use it as a peripheral). The bottom of the tablet of course is magnetically attached to the detachable keyboard.
Keyboard dock design:
The tablet connects with the keyboard solidly and the magnetic attachment feels a lot better than a latching system.
The trackpad is also very impressive for these type of smaller 2 in 1. It supports multi-touch Win8 gestures.Read more ›

Great machine - BUT hold off till manufacturing defect is fixed!

This is a great machine for the price - usable, light, fast, everything you'd want from a $350 machine (well, $380 from Amazon)....

But there's a manufacturing defect in a lot of units. You'll notice that in a day or two, the capacitive Windows button will randomly activate, and then get stuck like you have your finger on it. A cold shutdown (not reboot) might fix it but it's not guaranteed. Having your Windows start button stuck this way means that the power button and volume buttons do not work either (they do the combo action with the Windows button instead of their regular actions).

This is not a one-off issue. I've exchanged two tablets and they've all had the same issue. People are reporting this on the Acer forums too. ([...] ) There has been no acknowledgement from Acer yet about this issue.

Hold off buying this machine till Acer fixes this issue.

as of 07/08/14 this tablet has gotten a BIOS update that has fixed all issues with power and up/down volume rockers!
please update your BIOS from v1.03 to the new v1.05

I am very surprised by this tablet. Acer has done a very good job. I've owned it about a week now which is about the time that I review a product as I feel it is long enough to know about the tablet.

Design:
It looks awesome. Like, really awesome. It is beautiful, almost as much as a Mac book. I know its plastic, but it sure as heck doesn't look or feel like plastic. And it is very sturdy. I haven't felt any loose spots by pressing firmly on the screen like I have in some of acers cheaper android tablets.

Performance:
It is very fast. Slides through web pages like its nothing! 1080p video through xbmc played perfectly. I have not tried a 4k video yet, I will update when I do, but I'm sure it will have no problems.
I have played torchlight 2, which is legacy software and it played great!
Runescape played on high settings at full screen without hiccups.
Team fortress 2 played great.
League of legends played great.
Any app from the app store is going to play great on this machine.
Remember, this is not a gaming machine, so no skyrim or assassins creed. But this can run a lot of games!

Screen:
It's not full HD, but it does look nice. And it is so easy to see it outside.

WIF:
This thing gets great signal! I have a galaxy Note 3 and when I am outside my house my phone gets about 60% WIFI while I have full bars on my Switch 10.Read more ›

Best Bang for the Buck

Initial thoughts: I have to say this little 2in1 has surpassed my expectations. I've never owned a laptop before. I'm into computer gaming and video editing, so a desktop has always been my go to device. But I recently got into in-home sales, and I needed something to present design ideas and bids to clients.

Pros: Small; lightweight; surprisingly fast at loading programs (because of SSD); magnetic snap function works well, screen looks good for not being full HD; comes with office pre-installed. unbeatable price.

cons: screen randomly changes brightness for no reason. Since most of the weight is in the screen, when it is in laptop mode, you cant tilt the screen back more than 45 degrees without it tipping over.

Bottom line: If your looking for something to be your main computing device, you should look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a device that is great for work and school and you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, this is the best bang for the buck.
