Amazing tablet/laptop hybrid! I really do think this tablet/hybrid was built for me, a picky user, and at the price of $169.99 shipped, there is NO better deal.

My Background: I'm a power user I owned and used several tablets of different sizes and OSes over the years and this is by far the winner. My tablets include: IRULU Walknbook, DragonTouch i10x, Asus Tranformer Android, Surface Pro 2, Dell Venue 8, Nexus 10.

As most tablets are offer similar specs and software, my review is focusing on things that would normally find annoying to the point that would hinder functionality through day-to-day usage. I won't go too much into detail of what this tablet is mainly used for other than basic usage (Web browsing, Office, lightweight 3D games, HD viewing of Netflix/YouTube)

HARDWARE:

-Looks: It is aesthetically pleasing and well built. I purchased the Certified Refurbished model and expected annoying scratches/dents but surprisingly the screen had no visible scratches at all. There was 1 very tiny nick on the back corner that I didn't mind. The majority of the back is brushed aluminium metal and the rest appears to be high-grade metallic plastic surrounding the touch panel and comprising the keyboard dock.

-Weight: The combo tablet/keyboard very lightweight and squared edges make it easy to carry around without slipping from your hands.

- In addition to the rubber pads on the bottom, there are hard ridges that go along the edges of the keyboard dock near the magnet tabs. They're there to prevent scratching along the bottom surface when you adjust the screen. Definitely a lot of thought was put into the design!

- The AC adapter is solidly built and the length of the cord is fairly long, compared to other tablets.

I looked at the Acer Switch and Asus Transformer. I also happen to own a Dell Venue 11 (the i5 version). I needed something super light for travel, with a good keyboard, and good battery life, that could also have the muscle to stream video well, and the Acer works great. And although it's not as awesome as the Dell Venue 11 keyboard (with the battery), the Acer keyboard is still a pretty good keyboard. When deciding between the Acer and Asus, my two main concerns were battery life and a great keyboard. It turns out I had to make a choice since the Asus has a much longer battery life, but the Acer has a much better keyboard. Not that the Asus keyboard is bad--when I tried it the keys were just a little small and that made it feel uncomfortable for all day typing. The Acer keyboard, however, is very spacious and very similar is layout to the Dell Venue 11 keyboard with the battery (the Dell is one of the best keyboards I've use and right up there with my beloved Lenovos). The only issue with the Acer keyboard is that it feels a little cheap. I'm a keyboard snob, so "a little cheap" may be awesome for someone else. And at the price, you certainly are getting more than you paid for with the Acer. Before getting it, the one issue that really concerned me with the Acer was the battery life, which I find is pretty close to the advertised 8hrs or so. The Asus tempted me because of it's 11 or 12hr battery life, but I just don't imagine needing that more than once a year, and I also suspect because the Acer has a traditional charger (not a micro usb) that it charges up faster than the Asus (I haven't tested that, but I've read it in other reviews). Again, I haven't tested how long the battery lasts, but I can stream several movies and tv shows and still have plenty of battery left.

I have been using it for a month now and love it's portability and ease of use. The only thing I might complain about is that the screen brightness does not dim properly when I adjust it. Sometimes, the brightness remains the same when I try to adjust it.

First, the packaging and the unit are both typical for quality refurbished units. You should expect minor cosmetic flaws – it’s a refurb unit, but mine is overall very clean. There is a minor scratch on the keyboard near the right hinge that I can’t see unless I put it under a lamp, and a small dent on the back side of the screen, approximately .5mm deep and 4mm from side to side. I could do without either of those, but seriously, it’s expected and if you actually use one, you’ll make a few of your own scratches or dents in short order anyway.

When I first turned it on I got an error which, from experience, was probably from a failed Win10 upgrade. I was annoyed that it had been attempted, but the Win8 recovery was automatic - I don’t think I had to hit 2 buttons (there was a recovery partition preinstalled). That took just a few minutes, and then I was up and running.

The keyboard is, as described in other reviews, absolutely top-notch for a tablet. I’ve tried others, and none have even come close. If you have giant lumberjack hands, you may have problems with it, but seriously, other than the size which comes with the 10” tablet territory, it’s an absolute dream. I’m typing this review on a Toshiba Tecra, a $1000+ laptop, and the keyboard response and feedback make it a 10. I’d give the Acer tablet keyboard a solid 9.

The mouse pad is responsive too, but there are no distinctive buttons (they’re there, just below the surface). Left-clicking can be done anywhere on the pad, but right clicking has taken me a while to get used to. The pad seems very solid too.

Another thing I love, which I have not seen on other tablets I’ve tried, is the strength of the magnets that hold the screen to the keyboard.
