More than just a tablet

Bought this after much research to replace a first gen iPad. I wanted to spend no more than $250, if not less. Cross shopped with iPad Mini, Dell Venue Pro, Toshiba Encore 2, Asus Transformer, and a few other 2-in-1 laptops. Settled on this because it was the best bang for the buck. I bought it from the Acer outlet as a refurb for $199--and I made sure it was the newer edition (beware of SW5-011 models, they apparently had some bugs). I didn't look at it in the store first, so I took a gamble that I would like it.

And for less than $200, I like it a LOT. It's a 4 star machine, but I gave it 5 because it's so darn cheap. I figured I would like to have a keyboard for any tablet and this comes with one.

And this is no ordinary tablet -- this is a fully functional Windows 8.1 desktop operating computer. It's versatility is its biggest selling point. I needed a machine where I could easily edit documents, listen/organize music, watch movies here and there, and organize some files. This fit the bill, as its not my primary computer. I would recommend thinking about your needs before purchasing because there are some limitations.

For positives, it's fast, responsive, and lightweight. The build quality seems sufficient and it looks more expensive than it is (but I wouldn't say it looks luxury, of course). I have the 1200 x 800 resolution screen, and it is more than adequate. Brightness is good, but washes out a little in bright light.

I have 32gb and easily expanded my storage another 32gb with a microsd card I had in an older phone. It worked fine after fiddling with the formatting and windows makes it easy to tell it to store music, movies, photos on it (windows won't let you run apps off the sdcard, though).Read more ›
