I've been shopping for a touch screen laptop under $550 dollars for a few weeks looking for a bargain less 30% or more. After reviewing Dell, Acer, and HP. I've decided for Acer as cheaper on price with the same specification - i5 processor 4th Generation, 4GB low voltage RAM, 500GB hard disk, built-in Intel HD 4400 graphics, and big display touch screen 15.6". Whoa, I've never expected that this laptop is one of the best purchase I've done as it is so fast, touch screen Windows 8.1 with update 1 response is great no hiccup, Dolby Home Theater sound is great, Aluminum keyboard rest pad, Full island keys for keyboard and numeric pad, and with internal DVD writer. I primary used this laptop for basic internet browsing, programming MS Visual Studio 2013, typing documentation, watch movies, and ebook reading.

PRO: DOLBY home theater sound is great, Intel HD 4400 integrated built-in graphics touch screen response is great, 4th gen i5 processor, 15.6" touchscreen display, nice sturdy keyboard full keys, and built-in DVD writer.

CONS: I can't find any negative for this sub $550 dollars price? maybe no back-lit keyboard but I don't need that as I always work on a bright lid environment :)

After using it for 2 weeks, I go for upgrade and I bought internal SSD Samsung EVO 840 120GB and additional 4GB RAM. Good thing is it is very easy to upgrade this laptop as you need only to remove only 1 screw! Maybe the designer knew that probably most laptop owners will upgrade to SSD and put additional RAM memory. I couldn't be happier now as my 64-bit Windows 8.1 with update 1 boots less than 8 seconds.

I just turned it on & went through the registration process. What an improvement over my 2 yr. old HP. The screen is great by comparison. It has the 4th generation Intel processor for the best battery life. It's an i5, not the faster i7, but that's just fine for my needs. I like the touch pad, which has a separate button bar - MUCH better than those that have the buttons indistinguishable from the rest of the pad. Everything seems to work as expected. It feels solid. It's pretty light compared to my old laptops, but not as light as the current crop of much more expensive models. The only significant feature that I would have liked is a backlit keyboard. But for this price, I decided to give it a try. I'd recommend this model for anyone wanting a home computer and can sacrifice a backlit keyboard.

I had to get a powerful laptop for my daughter's 15th birthday, she uses it for games. For the price and for its features, this computer is a great choice. Acer is very reliable.

This is a great laptop, even more so since the price is so reasonable. The i5 is plenty powerful for most applications. The 4GB of ram seems a little low, but an extra stick can be added in for a max of 16GB. The hard drive is also a Western Digital Caviar Blue, one of the best in the market. RAM is made by Kingston, and is 1600 MHz. The screen is great to, at just over 720p and touchscreen too. I personally upgraded the hard drive with a Kingston HyperX 3K SSD and get boot times as low as 5 seconds. The build qualoty of this laptop is phenomenal. Its seems to be made of all plastic, except for the glass screen, but is of a high quality plastic. The plastic is molded to look like brushed aluminum and feels great. There is some flex to the laptop, but nothing to major. the keyboard is also great, it is an awesome chick-let style keyboard with a full number bad. As for the person who said the @ key is in the wrong spot, they are wrong and it is in the right spot, with the 2. Now, here is the part that is not mentioned, this is a refurnished laptop. I repeat, THIS IS NOT A NEW LAPTOP, IT IS A REFURBISHED LAPTOP. Now what that means is that the install a new hard drive (more than likely new RAM too) and if the shell is damaged, they replace it too. I could not tell that this was a refurnished laptop until I saw the certification from Acer. All in all, if you are in the market for a laptop, look no further. This is a fantastic laptop for the money.

I bought one of these. The AC adapter had a bad plug. Every Acer I have ever had has a bad plug. So I bought a real Anatec AC adapter with a good plug. (The Asus one made by another manufacturer has insufficient spring on the center post retainer. I have no idea why Acer does not do quality control on this really dumb little thing!)

This one had to be pushed in beyond the plastic side of the Right plastic and broke the plastic. The Anatec was fine. The only other thing wrong was the optical drive hangs out 3/32 further than the plastics. Good thing the insides are solid.

The Hard drive is infinitely upgradeable and Cruical makes a fine 16G kit DDR3L two 8G sims. The SD card hangs out so cannot be left in.

Had to buy the Windows 8.1 recovery USB cost $65 two days from Bellton Texas. Acer has the most peculiar EFIBoot Bios you have to log in with a password to the bios to turn off Secure boot. Ubuntu Shim or SuSE shim (same code) cannot install Grub 2 without the secure boot turned off. This is one of the few that does not work with Secure Boot. Other than that a nice Linux machine once you get beyond having to turn off Secure boot by installing a BIOS password. Not how it's supposed to work. All you have to do is turn off secure boot but only legacy MBR is shown before Bios password installed. (Not even greyed out. This is an ACER only crazy feature!) You cannot copy drive with Clonezilla. Clonezilla will not boot on this machine under any circumstance (Today maybe later). Parted Magic will secure boot off or Legacy. Must make sure to make the Windows backups before doing anything! (My first real bad encounter with EFIboot and quite the learning exercise!)

Cheap and Cheerful.
