Died in less than 2 months

The charger came in plain brown envelope with no packing material which makes me question how new the product actually was. It did not look used though so I am not certain if this is to keep costs down or not or if maybe it was refurbished or returned by another customer.

Within 2 months of use the charger was becoming extremely hot. It had actually grown hot enough where the plastic had started to melt and there was a burning odor coming from the charger. The laptop is used at a computer desk so the charger is very infrequently handled, because of that I do not know how long the problem had progressed for before it started over heating.

I had to give this charger a 1 star rating due to the hazard this charger posed.

The charger was used with a Gateway NV53 ms2285 laptop.

I was contacted by Metro Deal about a previous review i wrote that was negative. I was pleased that I was contacted right away. I was asked to please remove the comment. They assured me a replacement would be sent since the one I received was defective. i was asked to go through them and not Amazon. I complied removing the post as requested, Needless to say after that all communication stopped and I never received the replacement charger. And now it is to late to get a refund from Amazon. Metro Deal has great customer service the associates know exactly what to day the only problem is that they do not follow through....

Nice fit for the Gateway NV56, uh oh

Seems better quality than the OEM. Does not break open at the connection.
A little larger brick but with an on use light. Slightly smaller in length and has a straight connector rather than the crooked spigot on the original. Fit tightly and worked well on the first usage without heat. Great filler price put me at 25.01 for free delivery. I have a tendency to lose AC connectors at a rapid rate and travel quite a bit with my laptop..

UPDATE 12-17-13
no longer travels well. Loose connection somewhere, still works OK at home. Only three months after purchase. Cheaply made drops down to two stars.

The first time I used this, my battery died. It won't charge any more, not even with my old charger. The new one runs the computer when plugged in, but no battery. Is this a coincidence? Yeah, right. At least it works when plugged in, which is how I mostly worked anyway.

Update: I changed from 3 stars to 1 star (since they don't have zero stars) because I've had it for less than 3 months, and it just quit working. What a waste of money.

Works but Too Hot!

Purchased this for a NV53 MS2285 at the same time as a new battery. Charger has no issue when not under heavy load, was able to charge the new battery with the laptop off with no heat build up. Once under load unit became unacceptably hot sitting on a well ventilated table. I have ordered the 90w AC adapter and recommend anyone with model MS2285 do the same. This adapter has good build quality and shipped with a 3 prong power cord.

This product is good for the price, but do not leave it charging un attended it does not have a temperature gauge or shutoff which resulted it in melting the tip and breaking my laptops recharging plug. I was lucky i had already planned on buying a new laptop.

If used with caution it is a good temporary fix to a broken charger but do not treat it like the high quality ones that you buy from your pc manufacturer.
