An indispensable laptop accessory for many users

First of all, the portable desk tray is ready to go to work right out of the box with no assembly required. Just adjust the legs to the proper position, set your laptop on the tray, plug the fan cable into your laptop's USB port, and you're ready to go. For traveling, the desk stand folds into a very compact 19"x10½"x1½". (If you're going to travel with the desk stand, I recommend keeping the box, which is slightly larger, but putting it in the box keeps the legs from getting caught on anything.)

It's a well made desk stand with some very nice design features. The brushed aluminum looks good, and the top surface is big enough for most laptops. My 15"x10" laptop fit on the desk perfectly. The two cooling fans in the desk are not in the optimal location for my laptop, but they circulated enough air under the laptop to keep the hotspot area cool during the 45 minutes that I used it. I was impressed with the system for unfolding the legs and locking them in exactly the position you want them in. Even if the desk gets leaned on, it won't budge. To change a leg's position, you push in a button and adjust the leg. Each leg shows "compass bearings" so that you can easily match the corresponding leg's position on the other side of the desk.

I can think of at least two circumstances when the desk would be useful for me. One of these times was three years ago when I was bedridden for five weeks after a poor outcome from spinal surgery. I would have killed for one of these desks then. The other time(s) are in hotel rooms that don't have a good table for setting up a laptop. I have on occasion had to place my laptop on a low coffee table and bend over to use it, which hurts my back.

Pretty good for the price and weight! works well

I purchased this for my Mac Book Pro 15inch retina.
I purchased it so that I could lay in bed and have the laptop in a controlled position off the covers.
Because I do CAD work the fans that the unit has were important to me because CAD work really heats up my computer.

Overall it is a great product and works well. its not super flimsy. I've used it for about 1 month now most nights for an hour or two.
when I'm working hard I switch the fans on (not noisy) and the laptop stays cool to the touch which is great.. much better than having it on my covers and warming me up and it having to work hard to stay cool.

Issues that arent teh products fault:
obviously this thing is top heavy and unstable when on a bed, so if I am not "using it" then I don't leave the laptop on it.

Issues that could be improved on the product:
certain laptops are now all metal the "feet" on the bottom of my macbook are not very tall at all. basically there was metal to metal contact. Also because the feet on the mac are not tall there was no room for airflow. Also the 'little shelf" hingy thing they give you to stop the laptop sliding off the table is of limited value on a thing laptop or ultrabook as it is taller than the laptop and means you cant rest your hands comfortably. (so i cant use the little ledge shelf thingy)

My solution was to get 4 adhesive "rubber feet" and to stick them to the surface of the table. That stops my metal laptop from getting scratched, it stops it sliding around and it provides a decent airgap.Read more ›

Perfect laptop desk accessory for many reasons!

1. Keeps your laptop cool and well ventilated because your laptop rests on top with the fans running underneath when
laptop is on. This is reassuring since my 17" laptop is a workstation and tends to run hot.
2. The supports are easy to adjust, so you can achieve good ergonomics and proper view angle.
3. This unit is light weight and can easily be picked up and moved elsewhere.
4. Having the laptop on this instead of a desk or table, spills are less likely to reach it!
5. Moving around the home office a lot with a laptop, this is a very convenient prop with adjustability to remedy any setup
quickly!

Great Product

I bought my first tray stand over a year ago and have used it every day since. I bought 6 or 7 disappointing stands before stumbling onto this gem. Mine is still doing great. I just bought a second stand for a friend. She is laid up after surgery. The Pwr+ gives limitless configurations so she can use her laptop from a position that is comfortable for her. Pwr+: Ergonomic Bliss and Quality of Manufacture

I am typing this review in a fully-reclined position on my family room recliner. My laptop keyboard is positioned at a 45-degree angle to the floor, which puts my hands and arms in a very relaxed and ergonomic position and my head is nicely supported. If you have ever suffered from scapular pain "computer neck" from using a laptop on your lap, you should consider buying the Pwr+.

Build quality: The tray is made of aluminum sheet, perhaps 0.25" thick, flanged down and reinforced by plastic corners. The legs are anodized extruded aluminum rectangular tubes, connected to nylon hinges with button-release click-stops every 15 degrees like a miter saw. The click-stops are clearly marked on the sides, so I can easily remember my recliner settings (60-30-0). I would estimate the legs would hold about 50 pounds before they would splay like a newborn foal. I am impressed with the quality, and even the box it came in was beautiful. I have not yet tried the cooling fans, and I'm just too comfortable here to get up and fetch the included USB to 8 mm miniplug cable. They are DC brushless motors. Just having the laptop off your lap will have a cooling effect without the fans.

The legs are only about 15 inches apart on this unit with the fans, so if you are more than a 34 inch waist or have ice-skater thighs, you might consider buying the wider unit that includes the mouse stand.

I actually took this stand and my laptop to the furniture stores to shop for my recliner. One guy put in his Amazon order right there from his phone as we talked, and others wrote down the brand name. La-Z-Boy could easily sell these for $100 to people spending $2000 on a recliner.
