DISCLAIMER: this review is based on the Intel i5-5200U 2.2ghz CPU, which is what stated in the specifications on Amazon, however in the title of this unit stated i5-4210u 1.7hgz unit. I hope we all get the i5-5200u CPU since there's has been some complaints of the less powerful CPU being a limiting factor for gaming, but for $999 on a budget it was a deal for me either way. I also replaced a SSD on my own.

Pros: BATTERY LIFE, portable, relatively thin, screen resolution, powerful, runs fairly cool, as always cool FX effects with AW, decent speakers with AudioBlaster

Cons: driver issues with trackpad (fix for this with link below), trackpad use overall not impressive, lack of a SD card port, not SSD

Detailed review:

First impression: AW overall is gamer's blood in design, IMO it makes people's common laptops looks dull, out of box the unit feels SOLID enough I can use it as a brick to hurt someone, so not light for a 13 inch, but it will not break your back, soft mat finish of interior feels soft/warm and welcoming but not for the faint hearted with feels of control/power for tasks, overall cool looking rig-on-the-go. FX effects with AW sign lighted on outside lid and two lit trim lines in ~60deg angle going down while widening is just cool.

Screen: this unit on Amazon came with HD 1920x1080 like stated, and I would not recommend anything lower since the screen is 13.3", my previous 14 inch with 1366x768 was tolerable but by no means great. Viewing angle is good, color accuracy is also good but cannot beat by Razor Blade, but that cost $2000, at least I cannot tell the difference; but side-by-side by my Toshiba it's night and day.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I am a happy owner of two Alienware laptops. They both run on Windows 7 which is my preferred operating system. So for this review I will try to focus on the laptop itself and not go into too much ranting about the Windows 8.1 experience which comes with it.

My big 17 inch Alienware laptop is a big heavy beautiful beast of a computer. It is a desktop replacement. It's a thick, heavy solid machine which is cumbersome to lug around due to the thickness and weight, but has such a solid glorious feel to everything about it that it is worth the burden of the extra heft.

This little by comparison Alienware laptop is light and thin. It has the best of everything my big Alienware has (aside from the preferred Windows 7), and even is improved in the feel of the keyboard, something I wouldn't have thought possible. It's not thin and light like a Samsung or Acer. But it's thin and light like a little sleek Alienware, meaning it still has some bulk and heft but is much more reasonable and toteable than the monsters of the past.

I cannot help but comment on the miserable experience of setting this up by signing in to Microsoft and telling them my birthday, my phone number, and having to allow them to know more about me than I would have preferred, just to get to use my new computer. I also had to agree to let all my documents go to their Cloud drive, while they insisted this was a great favor to me to help in case I needed them at some point from another computer.

And this comes with a free download of facial recognition software, which is something for now I am going to do without until I travel with this. So Microsoft would have my face, my birthday, my documents, my phone number, my location, along with two email addresses. None of this is optional.

Although I didn't purchase my Alienware 13 directly from Amazon, this is exactly the same model and specs I purchased at my local Frys Electronics store as I needed a new laptop for work.
I opted to purchase this laptop not only because of the graphics but also something light and powerful. Now I could have purchased an Ultrabook, but they don't have the same graphics performance as the Alienware 13 and move other reasons. It's nice to be able to game in between but not heavy gaming. So below is my review/impressions and after One month of use.

Screen: 13.3" screen is what I believe to be a perfect size for work mobility. With the 1080P, screen looks great but when adding multiple screens, remember that Windows have scaling issues. Lack of touchscreen makes it difficult for Windows 8.1 and the glitchy trackpad doesn't help.

HDD: I suggest replacing this hard drive to an SSD. Due to additional softwares that was going to be installed, I needed a much more powerful storage and the 1TB 5400RPM that came with it was the only bottleneck on this machine. Replaced it with a Samsung 256GB SSD 850 EVO.

Build Quality is well made. Although I didn't like the fact that it picks up oil very quickly where your palms rests. I've also noticed some scratches at the top/lid area.

Performance is great and have handled everything I've thrown at it. Played a few games like DayZ, Stranded Deep and BF4 and runs pretty cool and quiet. Fan rarely comes on and when it does, it's fairly quiet.

Battery: It got me roughly 5+ hours on basic use. Surfing the web, 40% screen brightness and a few youtube videos, application usage, etc. But during gaming, roughly 3 hours.

Keyboard: Nothing to write home about as it feels a bit mushy but it gets the job done.
