Sturdy "Man Bag" Of A Briefcase

This Alpine Swiss Monroe Leather Briefcase/Messenger Bag is a real "man bag." Big enough to hold even a large laptop, the bag is made of a smoothly finished black leather with stainless fittings and features both normal briefcase handles & a detachable shoulder/cross body strap of heavy duty webbing with a leather shoulder pad.

A handy front zipper accesses a pocket on the cover of the front compartment for quick retrieval of small items, while the zipper surrounding the front panel reveals a compartment designed for storage of pens, cards, & a cell phone. While that compartment does unzip on three sides, it is gusseted so that it will not open flat. The padding from that front pocket does, however, make it suitable for an iPad.

A large center compartment reveals a padded compartment suitable for even a large laptop (I tried this with a 17 inch HP) and three side pockets to store small sundries or even a small mass-market paperback about an inch thick.

A third zippered compartment is also padded. While not as large as the center compartment, the padded section would be suitable for a smaller laptop and either section perfect for standard file folders.

A final compartment at the very back runs the full width of the bag but does not zip or otherwise close. (The rear briefcase handle is attached to the outer panel of this compartment.) All of the compartments are lined with an attractive dark gray light weight rip stop. Construction is mostly very well done.Read more ›

Good design for handles

FITS:.. Laptops less than 15.5" x 10.5" x 1.25" + all their accessories. Make sure you measure your laptop (include USB devices in measurement)

PROS: Lightweight, leather, stylish, thin, plenty of zippered storage areas. Good design for handles. Great looking bag! Definitely worth the $70 I paid.

CONS:. You can't have it both ways. The lighter more stylish the bag, the lower the protection. This bag doesn't have a hard frame that would protect a pc from a hard fall like my "inland" canvas bag had.. but it is several lbs lighter and a couple of inches thinner.

OVERALL:.. great bag. Highly recommended. My two fears are (1) dropping it on a top corner of the bag and damaging my laptop screen and (2) protecting the leather. Really.. this is a great looking bag. I'd hate to scratch the leather under an airplane seat.

Very nice bag

What a nice bag, and the price is amazing. The leather is soft, so if you want a stiff type of bag, you should try some other bag. I was looking for a bag with "just enough" room to carry essential items for leisure travel, and this is exactly what I had in mind.

Luxury bag at a Slacker price.

For the money, this bag feels like a much more expensive case, tow or three times more so. It has good zippers, nice hardware very smooth and expensive seeming finish to the leather. I could use a few more pen holders and several more smaller pockets inside to give you an even distribution of things like the chargers and cables, but in general is a really nice bag.

I keep a Ultrabook in there inside its leather sleeve, an Ipad in case, 3 charging blocks, external battery, 3 pens, solid-state drive, general cables and thumb drives, headphones, 2 laptop dongles, and a file for papers and precision tool set. It still lays sleek with no obvious bulges and I can fit a second Ultrabook in there if I need to.

This really harkens back to the old days when laptop bags were 300 bucks but they were made like a fine briefcase or folio. I'm getting a little sick of ballistic nylon myself.

And like fine bags, this doesn't have tacky plastic or rubber feet on the bottom, so you will want to be more careful where you set it down.

The lining of the bag is dark, bucking the trend of fluorescent interiors. While this is more pleasing to the eye it does make things harder to find if you're digging around for something in low light.

Also, this thing is begging to be stolen.
