One of the hardest things for me when I’m traveling is toting all my tech gear along with me. The first thing, and one of the most difficult, is getting through the TSA lines with my pocketbook, my carryon, and those little incidentals I need out like my passport. And then there’s the problem with pulling out that laptop. The iPad can stay, but pulling out the laptop is just one more issue I hate to deal with, especially when I have to move fast.

I paid a lot of money for my equipment and definitely want it protected, preferably in an easy-to-access organizer like the Alpine Swiss Messenger bag. The first, and most noticeable thing about this bag, was the padding and the material. I do have cases with my iPads and the laptop is sturdy, but with the jostling travel provides, any extra padding helps and is always welcome.

The 1200 D Ballistic fabric is tough, one of the toughest fabrics that I see used on backpacks, luggage, and some clothing. There’s durable well-stitched piping along the edges, including beneath the front double-zippered compartment. It’s the extra touches I like to see. Things like the reddish / orange silicone inserts and the front add nicely to the “look.” There is a solid Alpine Swiss resin logo top front and center.

The front zippered compartment easily accommodates my iPad Air, case and all. I could also put it inside if I preferred, but because I use an iPad frequently when I’m traveling, I want it where I can get at in. Bag Flap is flappy

This bag is great and has lots of room for my laptop as well as other papers and books and gloves and chargers and oh my, many other things!

The only thing that keeps me from giving this 5 stars is the buckle. It's in an awkward location and hard to buckle sometimes without reaching in behind the cover flap. Also, speaking of flapping, when I wear the bag and regardless of if it's buckled or not, the cover flap bangs against the bag with every step--definitely a "flapping" motion. This is quite unfortunate and takes away from the sleekness of the bag. I will have to attach my own velcro patches to the inside of the cover to keep this from happening and that should really be unnecessary.

Don't carry this bag in the rain!!!

I chanced a purchase of this bag after seeing some of the negative review comments, because I liked the look of it. I still do, and the materials used constructing the bag are of good quality for the most part.

It is a shame that the design of the bag does not match the quality of the materials. I had to return it.

The shoulder strap is a bit thin and not padded all that well. It tends to want to twist around, and the padded piece tends to "roll" and slip off my shoulder, unlike bags with a larger or more padded piece on the strap. I also see why some complained about the single hidden clasp being hard to access, but that was not a deal-breaker for me.

My reason for return is that with no zipper over the top compartment of the bag, water can EASILY get in. The picture is deceptive and it is true what others said about the top lip of the bag folding down. When I close the bag, there is a big gap on each side that is not covered by the flap. Also, with the bottom front clasp at its tightest position, the front flap is not held tightly to the bag, as someone else mentioned. While the bag looks really good in pictures, and is a great design overall, it just will not work for me.

A really good bag

I like the bag, I think I paid a little too much, but overall I'm happy with the bag.
The bag is a little awkward, but also has more room than I expected. the pockets are all very functional which is very important too me. I don't use it to carry a laptop but I do use all the space in the bag to carry materials I need to do every day duties. The shoulder strap works very well, I don't have to fight with it like did with my old bag.

good pockets and plenty of space

I looked at other bags, but the leather ones seem to be heavy and smelly. This is strong and light, good pockets and plenty of space. Ideal for the traveller. It does miss a place to put a tag, but thats an easy fix.

Good briefcase, shoulder strap design is flawed though.

This bag is well made, with lots of room/pockets/padding, and protection for a laptop. But it is far more suitable as a "briefcase" and not a "messenger bag". The design of the strap and the placement on the sides of the bag create an odd and imbalanced center of gravity when lifting/holding the bag's weight by the shoulder strap. The bag tends to want to rotate to face the ground. If you forgo use of the shoulder strap and simply use the top handle (as a brief case) then this is a great laptop bag for the money. If your aim is to have something that sits and fits well across the torso and can be manipulated well via the shoulder strap, look elsewhere.

Terribly made. Flimsy and not designed to be sturdy.

This is not made very well. The front flap when closed is way too loose from the bag and makes the bag almost feel unsecure and open. So many bags are better.
