The AmazonBasics Laptop Backpack (AB 103) is a budget priced 15" laptop backpack, which provides ample storage, but lacks up-to-date media pocket and adequate protective padding for most laptops. For the price, this basic laptop has a lot of storage, and will get the job done. However,it may not please someone who is concerned about protecting their laptop and wants a more expensive 'feel' to their laptop backpack.

In my video review I try to show you the features of this laptop backpack to help you make a good decision as to whether or not the features and price outweigh the shortcomings of this backpack.

Things I like about this laptop backpack...

+ Economical retail price makes it a good choice for those on tight budgets.
+ Lots of interior pockets!
+ Handle on the top.
+ Fits up to a 15" 'thick' laptop as well as ultrabooks.
+ (2) mesh pockets on the exterior for water bottles.
+ (1) interior pocket that looks ideal for a short umbrella.
+ Side cinch-latch system for making the backpack's depth greater or smaller.
+ Padded backrest and straps.

What I wish was better...

- Laptop compartment is too lightly padded.
- The back of the laptop backpack is padded, but the cardboard behind it bends and is right next to the laptop compartment inside.
- A reinforced bottom with another layer of canvas or leather, would be good for durability.
- The nylon that separates compartments is very thin, and feels like it could easily tear or be punctured.
- Despite having tons of pockets, there's not one on the outside, front. Maybe lose the decorative stitching and add a zippered compartment?
- No padded media pocket with headphone port.Read more ›

Decent and very roomy

I was not expecting much to be honest but this bag has exceeded my expectations. I typically do not write a review until at least 30-60 days after owning something. I just received this today and I am pleased!

Positives:
It fits my monster laptop (17.3" CyberPower PC) which is not easy to do. It will fit a 17" perfectly. It is still very tight for a 17.3" but in time it will loosen up a little I think.

Lots of extra room. There is a nice tablet sleeve built in to accompany your laptop which is nice. Kindle fits perfectly. Then there is even more room in the same compartment. The other main compartment is quite roomy too! Lots of pockets and space for stuff.

Excellent sturdy zippers which is a must for larger backpacks that are going to be holding heavy and expensive items.

Negatives:
I am disappointed with the padding on the very back of the bag. Almost none really. The same could be said about the actual internal laptop sleeve. If the bag is full of stuff then that acts as padding but there is not much material between the back and your laptop. The back is only a stiff paper/cardstock material and the backpack material.

The straps - not enough padding! Not even close. If you consider most people which purchase a larger laptop know that it is going to be heavy. Now start adding books or whatever else you are putting in the bag and suddenly you have a 15+ pound bag. These easily needed 2x more padding. The buckles are strong and thick though.

Not well made. Does not hold up to high school use. I have returned the backpack twice already, but I have had to pay for shipping each time. The warranty does not cover shipping. The shoulder straps are first things to tear and come apart. See the picture of the third one.

Nice sturdy backpack with five compartments

Nice sturdy backpack with five compartments. Just a tad bit undersized for my 17.3" Acer Aspire. With sheer determination, I do manage to get it zipped in, but not completely if the laptop in a sleeve and there are a good amount of items in the other compartments. Has a small quick access pocket. I was using to store my Sony CyberEnergy portable charger. It has some weight to it and pulls down the pocket if there is not much else in the backpack (see pics). Compartment is good for lighter items, e.g. loose change, car key, thumb drive, etc. Wish it came in "Girlie" accent color(s), but otherwise satisfied with the purchase.

17 inch does fit, but barely.... Rosewill would be better, IMO

I got this from my 17 inch laptop. It will not fit with any USB coming out of it, like one the small ones even for a mouse. Other than that, it does seem like it's a decent quality, for being so cheap. I would say it would be great for a 15.6, or 16 inch laptop.
Full disclosure: comparing it to my Rosewill bag, which I love, so if I had to buy it again, in short, I would buy the larger Rosewill.

This book bag is awesome. It's made of fine material and it's extremely sturdy. There are a lot of compartments, which may seem overwhelming at first, but once you start using the backpack more regularly, you'll be able to make sense of what to put where. You would think this back pack would cost as much as other name brand back packs considering its outstanding quality, but for 30$ this is an absolute steal. Northface can run you anywhere from $67 to $100+ on Amazon. For half the price, you can get a backpack that does the same thing and could possibly even be better. I love the colors, the hint of orange really catches my eye since orange is my favorite color. I was fortunate enough to get this for free with my Amazon credit, but I would gladly pay up to 100$ for this bag. That's honestly what it's worth. The drink compartments on the side are clutch and even have a clip that goes around the bottle and holds it in place. It fits nicely on my back without having to be adjusted and feels sturdy and comfortable when walking around. I'm not worried about it hanging too low or looking awkwardly packed (bulging) if I have a lot of stuff inside it.

The only thing that I don't like is zipping and unzipping the main compartment - where you'd store your laptop. There's a layer of fabric built into the bookbag that covers this zipper and you need to be careful when zipping and unzipping, otherwise you risk getting the zipper caught if you quickly try to zip it up. However, this is hardly a reason for me to even consider sending the bag back or stop using it. I would rather be cautious anyway when zipping to preserve the bookbag so I'm kind of glad that it has that layer over the zipper.

Overall, this bookbag is awesome. I can't be more satisfied. I would recommend it for any one.Read more ›
