This battery pack is simply the most powerful rechargeable battery pack that I have ever tested. It is also the highest quality design and construction that I have seen in any battery pack. I was so impressed that I put together a video of the unit and the test results for your review.

The construction of this battery pack is simply beautiful. The exterior shell is brushed aluminum that looks fantastic. The battery is the size of a 7 inch tablet and it weighs in at 1 pound 4 ¼ ounces. It is assembled with machine screws and the overall construction is the best I have seen. The battery pack has a USB output port that outputs 5 VDC at 2.1 Amps. It can also output 12 VDC at 4 amps, 16 VDC at 3.5 Amps and 19 VDC at 3 amps to charge many laptop and netbook computers. There is a voltage switch to set the output voltage for specialty charging so make sure that you set it to match your needs of your device. This is important.

This is the first battery pack that I have seen that has enough power to charge an iPad 3 fully and in reality it could charge it 1.3 times according to my tests. I was able to charge my electronic devices for over 10 hours on a single charge of the battery pack which is amazing. Nothing I have ever tested has even come close to the performance of this battery pack. During the testing the temperature of the battery pack never even exceeded ambient room temperature. I used the USB port to charge my devices during this testing. To start your device charging connect it with the proper cable and power adapter, set the voltage if required and press the battery pack power button and charging starts. The charging will stop automatically when your device is fully charged or the battery pack is depleted.

There are several reviews that complain of two faults with this external battery, and the reviewers downgrade it as a result. I have found that these issues are not really problems.

1st Reported Issue: The USB port doesn't work.
Yes, it probably does - it just doesn't work automatically. Unlike the 12v,16v and 19v pin output which begins charging your device as soon as it is plugged in, the USB output port has to be turned on by pressing the front panel button on the battery. This can be confusing and I believe several people just decided the USB charge port didn't work when it didn't begin charging their USB devices. Just push the button and it will work.

2nd Reported Issue: The battery can be shorted making it useless
I thought this too after I accidentally connected the input and output ports on the battery. It went dead immediately and nothing would get it to start. However, Anker support suggested I connect the battery to the wall charger. As soon as I did this the battery began working again. Connecting the battery to the wall charger resets it. So again, no problem.

Neither of these tips are documented in the battery's instructions so I can understand how people would think the battery was defective when it was actually fine.

I really like this external battery. It is easier to carry around than a wall charger and you can recharge almost every electronic device you own anywhere. It has a lot of capacity and once you know its two quirks it's foolproof to operate. Support from Anker has been great - they are very responsive.

I would like to see Anker redesign the input and output ports so they are not so similar. it is very easy to confuse input and output since they are both pin plugs right next to each other. I ended up putting a piece of electrical tape over the input port just for safety.

This is a review of the Astro Pro2 20000mAh battery pack.

I am impressed with this pack. It is good looking and well built, enclosed in a nice aluminum enclosure. It feels very solid & includes a multitude of mobile phone and notebook connectors. If you have a USB device that charges via USB, then there should be a connector for it.

Pros:
* Relatively high capacity at 20000mAh/74Wh
* Easily charge it with the included AC adapter
* Very nice brushed aluminum enclosure & great build quality
* The notebook output has a voltage selection of 19V, 16V, or 12V.
* Easy check of battery level with the push of a button... just look to see how many of 5 green LEDs are lit.
* Lots of connection options to change USB devices, mobile phones, and notebooks (see the product description for the details - no need to repeat them here)

Cons:
* Even with lots of connection options, it may not support your notebook/ultrabook - or may require an additional adapter to do so (like with my Dell XPS 12); see the comments on this review for a link to a "Dell power dongle" that may be useful if you have a Dell XPS 12 or XPS 13
* If you have a "beefy" notebook (like one with a discrete GPU), then it's likely possible to overload the battery if you run the CPU and/or GPU at high load, in which case the battery pack and notebook may shut down. Other things may affect the load too, like plugged in USB devices and how bright your screen brightness is set to. I did a test with my Dell XPS M1530 which the screen brightness all the way up and ran Intel Burn Test to get the CPU going and it DID work. I think it was pushing it though. The battery indicator went down during the high load but went back up when the test was over.
