Solid purchase, don't regret it (yet)

I've had this battery running in my laptop for three weeks now, and I have to say that I'm happily impressed.
To give myself some small amount of credibility, I'm an IT professional, and have been doing hardware & software support for more than 4 years.

Pros:
From day one, the battery has had stellar performance. I very commonly get 4-6 hours of battery life on my linux install. Very impressive for a purchase at this price.

Cons:
The battery isn't a perfect fit in the bottom of the laptop, but you really have to be picky to even notice this.
The battery has "worn in" some, down to 8608mAh from 8800mAh since the beginning of week 2. Hopefully it doesn't drop much further. I'll edit this if it does.

Advise:
This battery is HEAVY. Not like it can help it, that's simply all 12 cell batteries.
The battery takes a VERY long time to charge, (think- twice the capacity, twice the charge time as the 6 cell)
Understand Lithium-ion batteries if you want to keep this battery in good shape, and therefore get the most out of your investment.
1) Don't let the battery drop below 10% if you can help it, except about once a month to calibrate the battery controller.
2) Don't run the battery in extreme heat or extreme cold if you can help it.
3) Keep it plugged in when you can, but also keep the energy moving through it IE let it discharge to 50% fairly often.

Better than nothing

This is my third battery for my Compaq laptop. The OEM worked well for 2 years, then I replaced in with a 12-cell that was incredible for a few months, then started to die. This one holds a charge for about as long as the 12-cell did when it was dying, and about as well as the (6 cell) OEM did when it was new. So it gets 2 stars-- it does the job but not very well.

p.s. it seems like the great majority of these reviews are by people with only this one review in their account. I'm not saying this is being astroturfed, but you may conclude that.

UPDATE: the LaptopMate people read my review and dropped me an email suggesting that if I fully drain and recharge the battery a couple of times the performance should improve. It definitely did-- my energy-hungry Compaq can now go 3+ hours unplugged, versus 1.5-2 before. Rating raised from 2 stars to 4.

Laptop runs a LONG time!

Bought this battery to replace the OEM battery in our HP f572us laptop. First off, the battery fits nice and snug and there are no worries of it falling out. This is a 12 cell battery which at first, I wasn't sure if I wanted a big "lump" in the back/bottom of my laptop.. But like others have said, it really does help cooling lifting the laptop up! But I still kept wondering whether to buy a small 6 cell like it came with.. Well, lets just say the laptop runs forever on the battery.. Even when it was new, I never got over 1.5 hours.. I don't know how long it is running now.. The first discharge cycle, I started at 5:30pm.. At 10:00pm, I just left the laptop running and went to bed so it would discharge properly. I would estimate the laptop was used 60%, and the rest of the time, it was idle.. (I had hybernation/sleep turned off so it would drain it on down).. WOW.. Will update if I have any problems..

Good batteries for old laptops, if the laptop can support it

These batteries tend to deliver long performance; my HP Pavilion dv2000 gets over 5 hours from this battery. However, for some laptops (mine included), this extended battery life diminishes rapidly after only a few months. This is highly likely due NOT to the battery (product) but rather to the nature of older laptops and their inefficient power management systems. Some laptops just cannot deal with these extended life power sources and automatically create memory problems with the battery that result in shorter life spans. Not the battery's fault...

This battery is heavy but it provides hours of use. Because of it's larger size it protudes out from the bottom of the laptop providing lift at the back so the laptop sits at an angle rather than totally flat. This is a good thing. Glad I made the purchase!

Good replacement battery for older notebook.

This battery does a good job as a hard-to-find replacement for older notebooks. It worked great on an old HP dv6000. However, the bottom of the battery has a large plastic bar that runs the length of the battery and protrudes about an inch. So the battery does not fit flush with the notebook. It does fit into the notebook battery slot properly and operates correctly. But this causes the notebook to be elevated about an inch at the rear where the battery resides. It's just a part of the design of the replacement battery. Some customers have since uploaded images showing the difference. The battery has worked well so far, but it is not an exact replacement for some models.

Edit on 03/28/13 - Anker's customer service department was very courteous and helpful. They provided a replacement of the original size for my laptop. I have added one star for my experience with them. Both batteries work fine and I have had no problem with the operation of either product. My only complaint was the fit of the battery and the free replacement solved my issue.

Doesn't hold charge as long as the posted reviews

I ordered the battery and it arrived in good condition and delivery was on time. The battery is bigger than the original HP battery, but it fits perfect. I charged it to 100% when it arrived and let it die on it's own, then re-charged it. I was expecting to get at least 3 hours if not more based on the posted reviews and that is not the case. This battery begins to die within 30-45 minutes of continous use. I have to keep it charged/plugged as I did with the old HP battery I had. Maybe the Anker battery I received was a defective battery or I didn't charge it correctly because I am not getting more than 45 minutes continous use.
