Size: 16GB RAM | 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD Verified Purchase

Powerful and aesthetically pleasing machine. I'm fully booted up and typing in my Windows password within 5 seconds of pressing the power button thanks to that SSD. The keyboard is of impressive quality and has customizable LED lighting. Will run the Witcher 3 on High settings (Medium might be ideal but High looks and runs great). Even when I do so the fans keep the computer much cooler than anticipated. Can be used in your lap as long as you aren't working your system too hard and is pretty darn portable as far as gaming laptops go so it's a great option for students. The screen & especially the CD drive do feel a little flimsy so you'll probably want to get a nice laptop bag or something to transport it in. This is a non-factor to me since I have a mouse but the track pad is meh. I don't mind using it that much it just isn't the best and has no scrolling functionality.

Pros: Performance (Bang for your buck!), Aesthetics, Relatively portable, DAT KEYBOARD

Cons: You'll have to be careful with it, CD drive and trackpad seem cheap

Overall this is a great machine and unless you are afraid you'll be clumsy with it or these specific cons bother you then I'd seriously consider it.

Very good buy

I've had this laptop for a little over a month now and so far zero issues.
Pros:
It's lightening fast on start up. Less than 10 seconds from hitting the power button to having a program running. This version has been upgraded with an SSD. This is very much worth it. It's a huge performance boost.
Powerful. It can run most current games at high to max settings. Warcraft at ultra.
The screen is actually very good. It's sharp, clear and has amazing viewing angles. This is a very solid IPS panel.
The keyboard, as with most of the MSI G series, is great.
Cons:
None really. Bloatware, but what do you expect?

Other thoughts.
It's a very large laptop. It's a slim form factor, but still not easily portable. Make sure you understand that before you get the 17 in version. That said, none of the current 15 in iterations have the IPS panel, and it's a very good screen. The reseller seems to have done a great job with the upgrade, so far it's very stable.
When I first got it, the computer was running HOT. 70c to 85c. This is way too hot for a laptop. Grossly above what it should be at load even, and this was just running Windows. MSI has a nifty program that lets you see the temps. I fixed by changing the power settings from high to mid and that solved this. Now it runs very cool (in the 40s idle).

This computer comes with Windows 8.1, but so do most machines you're going to buy. If you don't want Windows 8.1 you may want to wait til the next OS drops.

I do think Computer Upgrade King voids your warranty with MIS when they install the SSD, so take heed! I think they provide some warranty of their own, but there's no documentation in the box... Not sure if that voids MSI's 1 year accidental.

Its Great !

I ordered MSI GE72 QD from CUK with 256 SSD. This machine is very fast. It takes only 12 seconds to boot windows (on/off)). Steel Keyboard is neat, keyboard engine and lights are cool. The Dynaudio, and the internal audio generator is very high end audio (deep bass and clarity). The assault squad 2 works great, no lag. The display quality works well for gaming, movies, and online browsing. This purchase is a smart investment. May be the DVD tray could be beefed up little, but i rarely use it, so its ok. I think SSD and i7 Quad processor allows to run virus guard very fast,resulting keep the machine running smoothly without lag.Hopefully this Laptop PC will last more than 4 years (.90 cents/day-estimate cost normalized for 4 years). Thank you MSI !

No longer offering the free BR-Burner upgrade but still a good value.

I do not own this laptop just yet but want to clarify one suggestion in the question/answer section. CUK no longer provides the free BR-Burner upgrade as reported by Nicholas Hebert on September 10, 2015. I definitely was going to buy this laptop if it was still provided. The message I received from CUK (Tyler Cohee, Oct. 8th 2015) suggests, "We had a promotion at one time where that was an option but it has since expired. I apologize for any inconvenience." This still seems to be a decent value nonetheless and I am still considering purchasing. Just wanted to save others the time and effort in case anyone was wondering. Tegra Tech Store is offering a free power adapter + power cord MSI GE72 APACHE-235 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop (B012AQH9IW) as of September 17, 2015.

It has it all except the expensive price!

I've owned gaming laptops in the past, this is my first MSI. I waited until I could get one that came with Win10 preinstalled. So far, so good. Having Windows run on the SSD really speeds things up. The games are playing very well with great frame rates. Looking around, for the price, you'd be hard pressed to find another gaming laptop that comes with 500GB SSD AND 2 TB HD. Big thumbs up!
