I am currently using the 2015 MBA as my primary computer except for playing games. This is my first Mac.

Design:
I've looked at a few premium laptop options out there. No one else makes a laptop with this much attention to detail, I am sorry but I don't care what Ars Technica says about the design being outdated. Sure, the Dell XPS 13 has a slim bezzel, but how long can you brag amount a slim bezel? Slim bezels will not attribute to the laptop's resale value.

Performance:
With 4gb of ram, I am happily editing photos in Photoshop with no issue. Watching movies, browsing Reddit, everything works well. I don't feel any stuttering or lag. For the average user, this thing is plenty fast.

Screen:
Lots of people are saying the screen is TERRIBLE... compared to MBP's Retina, or Dell's QHD IPS display. Well no sh*t, on a spec sheet, it is certainly terrible compared to those displays. But in real life, it is a good display that is bright and produces good colors. At 13", most people can't tell the difference. At a lower resolution versus the competition, you benefit from less draw on the battery. Okay, so the viewing angle, I wish was a little better, but I'm not editing photos for print on the MBA screen, so I don't care that much. I'll happily trade some screen resolution for a bump in battery life.

Other thoughts and comments:
Not everything's cherry blossoms and kittens though, I do find the hinge on the screen to be somewhat "loose" feeling compared to a MBP. So far it hasn't been an issue. Lack of an HDMI port is kind of silly, I have to use an adapter with the Thunderbolt port to get HDMI out. They didn't include the force click trackpad, which was a bummer.

If you're stuck between this or the MBP, just remember the MBP's size is not much larger than the Air. I chose the Air for it's better battery life, $300 cheaper, and because it can do everything I need it to.

Picked up a 11" 256GB at the Apple Store only because Amazon only carried the 128GB in the 11". Would have rather picked it up here as it was a few dollars cheaper and triple points on my Amazon Card on purchases here.

My only prior mac experience was a 2012 Mac Mini which I adored and sold it for what I paid for it a 6 months later when I thought new models were coming out. By the time they did, my money plans had changed. Bought another windows machine, that was HP junk. But I'm back on track and mac till the day I die.

I'm not a fanboy. If it sucked, I'd say it sucks. However I am a great lover of every apple product I've ever owned. Countless iPods, a few iPhones, Apple TV, etc... It all words like it should. Well designed, well built, easy and FUN to use.

I have some cheapskate relatives that look at apple as overpriced. However, my opinion is, Apple products are an investment. Use a windows laptop 3 years and if it even runs right (good luck) you can't get $100 for it. Meanwhile every apple product I've ever sold to upgrade brought me 3/4+ of the original purchase price. Most of the apple products I've had cost me 30cents to 1.00 a day the whole time I owned them. Life's short people... You owe it to yourself to enrich your life any way you can.

Last week I wanted to rip 5 new CDs I had bought on my HP "craptop". I swear I spent all freakin afternoon and the frustration was unreal. I know what I'm doing, I've ripped countless thousands of discs over the years and I made up my mind that day it was time to fork out the money.

Even though I had forgotten most of what I knew about my old mac, I plugged in the SuperDrive and did nothing more. Had 3 new CDs to rip and spent 4 minutes average to rip them.

I have been in the market for a small highly portable lightweight notebook for about a month. I've researched the heck out of every portable device with a 13 inch screen available in the United States.

I did hands on research of the 13 inch MacBook Air in an Apple store.

░░░░░THE GOOD░░░░░

❖ It's definitely got an attractive design. It looks like premium quality. It physically feels good in your hands and it easy to type on.

❖It's thin. Razor thin. If you looked at it sideways you might not notice it was there.

❖ The keyboard feels sturdy under your fingers and is easy to type on

❖ The large solid state hard drive. This is where Windows machines and Chromebooks fail. Either they have 16GB flash storage or they have large capacity physical hard disks that drain battery like crazy (Until you get into Ultrabooks, which overpower other hardware and have high price tags). If you don't want to keep all your data in the cloud, you need physical storage in your machine. 128GB of flash storage is great. It's ample space for most people. And it's fast access memory, meaning you don't have to wait for the physical disk to spin up and the read head to find your data on the platters. Granted that takes like 2 seconds at the most, but when you click on a file you don't want to wait 4 seconds. Ain't nobody got time for that! You want your file NOW!!! With flash storage, you get it NOW!

❖ The 4GB of RAM will overpower this machine for the daily use of most users.

░░░░░THE BAD░░░░░

❖ The 1440 x 900 screen has great color depth and reproduction. But it's not true HD. True HD is at least 1920 x 1080.
