This product appears to be sturdy and waterproof. The only aspect that I would like different is the Velcro flap. There is not enough flap there to securely fasten to the Velcro. Only about an eight of an inch of Velcro meets to seal the flap.

I just got this and have not given it a test run yet with paper instead of my laptop. The closure system is a bit on the flimsy side to inspire confidence. The thin zip closure, though it is a double one is hard to snap and be sure of it being closed completely and thin ones are apt to fail as I well know from freezer burned food and leaky bags in my lunch tote. The velcro flap is thin and barely closes empty and is like the flap on a mailer only with velcro. It is so narrow that it is likely to come undone when subjected to stress or getting bumped by other items in a backpack or book bag. With the zip closure being so thin and stiff and inferior in quality I am a bit skeptical of trusting my laptop to it. the rest of the bag looks well made. Why they skimped on the closure system is a mind boggler. As that is what keeps water out. It should do fine in a light to moderate rain if it is well protected otherwise in a bag of some sort. I would NOT trust this to protect my laptop in a heavy downpour riding my bicycle or walking. I would not trust this to protect an expensive laptop at all. It is only designed to protect it inside your carry case or bag in light to moderate rain dashing inside form a car. If you had to walk or wait for a bus and it might pour You would have to add an extra layer or two of protection to be on the safe side.

This is a heavy duty sheath with a second layer padded interior sleeve, both well designed and made. It will work perfectly to - for example - protect your laptop or portable folding travel monitor on an extended European backpacking where we slept rough and then train trip where we slept more elegantly, where the electronics were stowed in a backpack throughout, and rained on and knocked about occasionally. The color of my sheaths matches the red pictured here.

In sum, I am very pleased with this sheath- I bought two, a 15" and 17", and both performed very well. I am even more pleased with the seller "Gear Out Here"'s customer service. They went above and beyond to guarantee that I received the items in time for my trip. Kudos to them.

Bought this to project my new laptop after the old one drowned when I was caught in a spring storm. While it adds considerable bulk to the laptop (I put the laptop in this sleeve and, in turn, put the whole thing into my shoulder sling bag), I now have the peace of mind knowing that even if I get caught in the rain (which I generally try to avoid) my precious computer will be safe and dry.

It uses a double zip lock seal, combined with a fold over velcro seal. The velcro wont keep water out, but it will angle the mouth of the pouch away from water (and make it doubly hard for water to 'flow' directionally into the main storage compartment) which, combined with the aforementioned double zip lock seal, should keep water out unless you decide to go swimming with it...

I bought this two weeks ago to go backpacking with my laptop, so as you'd expect, it gets crushed and pressed around a lot. The fabric and seams seem durable enough, but the ribs that keep water out in the ziplock mouth are already cracked, and will not repel water. If you buy this; I think it's a good deal for how cheap it is. Be sure to NOT bend the mouth part horizantally, or it will break eventually.

I recently upgraded the tools of my trade to include a laptop but was confronted with the problem of fitting it into the same backpack with the rest of my gear...binoculars, VHF radio, rain gear. My work involves transferring from a small boat to a large ship in all weathers. The backpack is bright orange for the purpose of visibility so I wanted to keep it in service. The Aqua-Quest sleeve provided the water-proof integrity that I needed along with a degree of padded protection and it fit within the confines of my orange backpack. Precisely what I needed. Thanks.
