Love this Laptop

HORRIBLE KEYBOARD, PAINFUL TO USE! Low productivity laptop.

Horrible, horrible piece of ****

Husband got this for daughter last Christmas. The keyboard is horrible, not responsive enough and the trackpad is even worse... Right/left click is all one piece so you do not know which you're clicking on for sure unless you look down as you click. I thought I didn't like this computer only because I have not used it enough. Then, my own Dell computer broke so I have to borrow this Asus. After using it a few hours a day for about 1 month, I hate it even more. The keyboard layout is terrible. Say if you play a video and the audio come on too loud, it will take you a while to locate the "fn" key, plus the "f11" key, to lower down the volume. Also it doesn't have the cluster of indication lights (caps on/off light, battery low light... etc) where you can see them easily. These lights are well hidden under your right arm if you have your hands on the keyboard typing.

We installed some kiddy games, not even complicated ones, and now the pc is almost paralyzed. You can type some words, then you might have to pause, for the words you typed to show up a few seconds later.

Then, too bad MS has done away with windows xp and replace with junk they call window 8. If it ain't broken, don't break it! Why window 8? Very user unfriendly and redundant. It's like, hey, we have nothing to do, let's change a few things, create a few more loops for people to jump through to get to what they could have easily access with window xp, and call it window 8 and force people to use it... Sigh... now I'm spending more time to finish tasks that used to be easy. Even the apps, why change the look when it doesn't add to better productivity?

Will not buy another Asus again. Stick with reputable computers such as Dell, HP, you'll save so much more time.

No CD/DVD drive

I bought this model from Best Buy today and used it for 30 mins. Only then I realized it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. I need this to run cartoon CDs for my toddler girl. So I am thinking of returning it tomorrow. I am new to Windows 8 and so I was bit blank while using it in some places. Other than these I like this laptop... Sharp camera, very sleek, no lap heat, less weight... These things impressed me.. I would not return this laptop if the DVD drive is not missing....

This was a gift from my wife, placing me in the uncomfortable position of getting something I wouldn't have bought myself. She purchased it on line, so I did not get to "test drive" one before deciding on it. I am not familiar with Windows 8, so that took some getting used to, and there are a few features I had trouble with: the charm bar did not always appear when called up, and it appeared unexpectedly at other times. The touch pad is one piece, so working the left and right click buttons didn't always respond as expected. Additionally, sometimes a light, unintentional sweep of the finger on the pad minimized what was on the screen, and bringing the screens back wasn't easy as they didn't always go to a taskbar to click on. Finally, it just stopped working--all I got was a blank screen with the cursor, and nothing else could be called up. It was returned within the 30 days.
