Good little machine for a GREAT price

This is a great little laptop for the price. You can find better computers, but not many more have better overall value. The sub $200 price tag on this ASUS counts for a lot. I was personally searching for a 13 inch laptop when I found this little gem, and ended up getting one for my wife from a physical store because I had a gift card to that store that covered the full price.

I don't know if I'd want to do business work all day on this machine simply due to the 11 inch screen, but for nightly web browsing, watching a video, and the occasional Word document it's OUTSTANDING. It will even do nicely for watching a movie if you're on a plane or in the car (probably not as a driver or pilot. Check your local laws before using while operating machinery). It would also make a very nice machine for a student to take to class due to it's portability and ultra quite running.

░░░░░THE GOOD░░░░░

❖ The Screen. The display is a decent display. It's not full HD, but on an 11 inch screen you hardly notice. It's a very nice display for the price point. You can get a better display on other machines, but you're going to pay a lot more for it as well. If HD or better resolution is a must, this isn't the machine for you. If affordable is a must, this screen will be just fine.

❖ Portability. The thing is tiny is every direction. It's ultra portable. It's light weight. It fits into just about any carrying case.

❖ Battery life. It lasts forever. Well okay, maybe not forever. But a darn long time. You'd be hard pressed to wear the battery completely down in a single day. It's rated for 12 hours of battery life. It means it.

❖ Keyboard. My wife has smaller hands so the smaller keyboard is great for her. She loves it.Read more ›

I bought this laptop from Best Buy with their Christmas special for a final cost of $155 after taxes. I bought this laptop for a friend so she could watch HD 1080P movies on her TV via the mini HDMI port, and do simple web surfing (youtube, facebook, porn, ect.). Imo this little laptop gets 5 stars for price point to functionality as it does exactly what we needed it to do.

It's very thin & light weight, and the build quality feels solid. It comes with a mini HDMI port, 2 USB ports, microSD card slot, headphone jack, but no dvd/bluray drive (but lets be real who is really using these anymore anyways, I haven't in years, lol.)

I could argue the fact that 32gb vs. a 64gb for this system would have been the cherry on the top but then I'm reminded about the price so I can't complain but again u can always pop in a microSD card if needed or use a USB stick drive. I can't exactly say this system is snappy but I would say acceptable is probably the proper word. One more thing I really like about it, is the system is fanless so no need to worry about dust killing the system over time.

Imo for the cost I am very pleased.

Updated: OK for the price but understand its limitations (space issues)

Hard to believe, really, that technology has come so far that $140 will get you this. All in all, very happy, though you have to understand the limitations, the big one being the storage. Windows now doesn't let you offload program files onto the SD card, so you will probably be limited somewhat and must plan accordingly. Also, 2GB of RAM is generally enough, but I've already hit one memory warning while using Chrome. For me, this was meant to be a lightweight writing machine with some light-duty web surfing, and for that, given the battery and the very decent keyboard, it fits the bill perfectly. Two design comments: 1) the weird little projections on the back, which you'll hear remarks on. They really are weird, and they make it slide on smooth surfaces. It's bad enough that I'm tempted to file them down. And 2) this is the worst fingerprint magnet I have _ever_ seen. Every single surface on this seems designed to catch and hold oil from your fingers. It makes me feel a bit gross. And it's hard to clean up and, even if you do, it gets gross again quickly. But how picky can you be? Again, to complain about something at this price that generally does its job this well seems petty.

UPDATE: I assumed that, as with most Windows 8 PCs, you could delete the recovery partition by moving it to an external SD card. You cannot, apparently. Asus has mucked with the partitions and the regular process in such a way that you can't delete this waste of space. This SEVERELY limits available storage for apps. In fact, I can't really see how, even following every trick you can think of, you could install Office internally on this computer. Which means running it from a slowish built-in card reader. OTOH, this makes the computer slightly more idiot-proof, but OTOH, it more or less hobbles it.Read more ›

Just great! This little PC, ASUS, sounds infamous, cheapy, for kids, etc. But it is just as good as Apple Watch! Unbelievable innovation and I love it. I strongly recommend everyone to have this compact laptop, ASUS. And the color I chose is Navy Blue, which is my favorite one!

It is a great laptop, very compact

I bought this laptop for $99 plus tax at staples for their 2014 black friday deals. It is a great laptop, very compact, yet high quality. The speed is not very fast, but tolerable. I'm not going to play 3d games on it so it's not a big deal. The battery lasts a long time. From what I observe, at least 8 hours out of casual use like web browsing. It's very light weight, about 2 lbs. The screen is good quality, although not as high def as my ipad air. What I love most about this laptop, is that it's totally silent. There's no fan inside. If you use this laptop at middle of night while your loves ones are sleeping next to you, you won't bother them at all(given that you turn the brightness of the screen down too). Also, it does not produce much heat at all. It has a small battery, and that small battery can produce very long battery life, that means it's highly efficient.

Now the cons: I really hate windows8. I hate it. But it came loaded with windows8 I don't know how to get rid of it. This has nothing to do with the laptop so I am not deducting one star for this. I reason for me to hold back one star is, this laptop only has 32GB of SSD. With win8 installed, you only get less than 20GB of disk space which is NOT enough. ASus probably wants to sell you the cloud storage and make money there but I decide not to jump on their cloud storage,even though it's free for the first year(well, after the first year what do you do? so I decided not to get it). I bought a 128GB flash drive(which is like $40). That should provide some good storage when I plug it in the USB port. Nowadays the flash drives are fast. Mine can read at 80MB/s. However you need to be careful because this flash drive is sticking out. I want to get a microSSD when the price come down a little bit.Read more ›
