Ridiculously good for the price

It's got every feature I wanted: a high-quality convertible 15.6" 1920x1080 FHD screen, 3x USB3 ports, 802.11ac, gigabit ethernet, HDMI, comfortable backlit keyboard with number pad, 1TB drive. The i5 is the right compromise between power and power saving. There's nothing lacking.

It's not an ultrabook, but it's not as thick or heavy as I imagined. Although it might be a little too big and heavy to comfortably use in tablet mode for some people, I prefer the larger screen and don't mind the extra bulk. It suits me fine as an occasional tablet. The metal finish looks sharp. I thought I wanted a high-end ultrabook, but none of them are as versatile and usable as this... and for significantly less money, only slightly more weight, and it still looks sleek and proper.

It runs perfectly cool and quiet. The exhaust is along the hinge, so you can set it on a blanket or bed or wherever you want without blocking it and causing it to overheat.

The only nitpicks I can find are: I wish the screen wasn't so glossy, but that seems pretty standard at the moment. I'd like it if the keys were made of a nicer material - they just sort of look and feel like cheap plastic, and the backlight shows around the edges of the keys instead of just through the caps, which seems unnecessarily chintzy. On the other hand, mechanically, it's the best island-style keyboard I've used, with an excellent, clicky feel.

For under $600, I don't know what else anyone could possibly want right now. A Surface Pro or Lenovo Yoga might be better if you want more tablet than laptop - their smaller, lighter and thinner screens make them more comfortable to handle, but their prices are significantly higher.Read more ›

Great machine for the money!

This is a great machine. I bought this one and week later, I bought a second for my wife. These machines are fast and come in new condition. The seller does a great job and seems to stand behind their products. I have not had any further contack with Klamp Electronics as the machine works great. I was looking for a decent machine with at least an Intel I5 chip and a terabyte hard drive. I wanted a machine with more than 8 GB of ram. Programs and operating systems use a lot of storage and I wanted as much as I could get for the money. This laptop has an aluminum frame so it moves the heat through the surface area of the laptop. There is no screaming fan and the laptop can sit on my lap without burning my legs. Battery life is decent too. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work fine and the touch screen is a nice feature. I have not yet used the memory card slot or HDMI port. This laptop does not have a disc drive but we bought an external one for around $40.00. It isn't really necessary any more as all of the software and drivers I needed were downloaded. Neither me or my wife have had any problems with these in the almost two months that we have had them. Asus is one of the top of the line manufacturers making quality hardware. I spent a lot of time at Best Buy researching all of the machines out there and for the money, the Asus or the Lenovo machines seem to be the best for what I needed.

Great seller and Fantastic laptop!

Overall I am very impressed by both the seller and the laptop and I look forward to using this for years. I would consider this a very good investment!

KLAMP
Packaging was better than I could have asked for. Rather than using cardboard cutouts or something similar to secure it, they used a bubble sleeve which kept it tight in the box and protected it from any jostling or other mishaps that can occur during shipping. Inside the sleeve they used a cloth sleeve to keep scratches or dust or anything else out from it. Suffice to say, they have the packaging much improved from a previous reviewer who got packing peanuts. (See photos)
I was going to be out of town when it was being shipped so I contacted KLAMP and they responded within a couple of hours had it held at the nearest UPS facility until I got back with no issues! Very good customer service.

Laptop
I have had the Asus Q502LA-BBI5T12 15.6" laptop for 3 weeks now and could not be happier with it. The laptop is fast, responsive and worked right out of the box. The condition was like new with no scratches, marring, or any visible cosmetic issues and the aluminum finish is beautiful. I booted up into the Windows 8.1 setup and walked through it in a matter of minutes. There is some ASUS specific software that comes with the install but not a bunch of bloatware/adware. Wifi and bluetooth have worked flawlessly and there have been no issues getting them setup.
The touchscreen is something I have not had on a laptop before but I am really enjoying the added functionality for when I have it on my lap I use a mix of the touchpad, keyboard and the screen depending on what is intuitive at the time.Read more ›

As I am not a computer wizzard and not into the bells and whistles this computer works beautifully. I have not yet utilized all it's capabilities. I really like the bigger keys. The back lit keys did take a little getting used especially in poor light situations. The touch screen and the the ability for the computer to become a tablet are excellent. It has great processing speed and it's weight is very easy to manage both as a lap top and tablet. Over all I am enjoying the computer quite a bit. I would highly recommend this computer to others.
